The good news is when it comes to the Pippen (or the second star) I think we're going to be covered. Lyles or Hood could continue to develop and become this.
And who knows? One of them could improve to the point of being a bonafide, legit 1st scoring option. After all, Lyles has improved an amazing amount this season; and Hood has shown flashes of brilliance.
Though I am a bit concerned about Hood's inconsistencies. I feel like Lyles has the ability to be more consistent.
Now, we all know a legit, #1 scoring option is needed. And I'm not talking a player who is going to take the big shot but a player who has the talent needed to be able to score with relative ease. A player the other team has trouble stopping.
I watch a player like Jimmy Butler and just dream - and he's a good defender as well.
We need someone who isn't a chucker and is consistent to be able to score. There aren't a lot of players in the NBA who fit this mold. We've got multiple 'pretty good' players and a few role players but we need a scorer to get over the hump.
DL doesn't like to take risks. And so if we're going to land a star VIA free agency he's going to need to throw a lot of money at him.
Though I do think DL thinks ahead. He plans. The bench needs improvement and there's no doubt that will be addressed and I have faith it will work well. But to get a star is the key. And The Spurs got their stars through the draft. I feel like DL prefers to go that route as well - which is tough since we're not one of the worst teams in the league (though Parker & Manu were steals - maybe not stars but in their primes either could be considered the number-two guys on most teams).
