A plea for more scoring and ball handling via the 12th pick

Maybe GVC can help out here but we will have to spend about $20 M just to get to the projected salary floor next year. Could spend up to 30 to get to the cap but I highly doubt that we go high.

We need to sign someone and this free agent crop is pretty meh... Adding a better point guard would make total sense... Adding a wing would be great... An upgrade over withey works too. Because of our market situation and somewhat shallow free agent group and the amount of money that every team will have we may have very little say in what we can get. Sign someone good at some position... Then figure the other stuff out.
 
This assumes he kills it in workouts.. There's a 19 y/o 6'5" combo guard that'd certainly add scoring and ballhandling, he's also a good fit next to Exum (If Exum's going to be 35+% from 3)

IMO Baldwin IV, and Demetrius Jackson (unless they crush the workouts) would be reaches from the 12th pick.. Murray would be too but his upside might legitimately be higher..

Murray can operate at warp speed.. He's built very similarly to Exum too 6'5" 6'10" wingpsan.

He's a beast at getting to the rack, and can stop on a dime for a floater on the way... He's got some 'Houdini' to his game..

Sky's the limit if his shooting keeps improving.. He can get real hot.. Hes the next in line of Jamal Crawford Protege's from Seattle..
 
I wouldn't mind adding another pick (late first or early 2nd) to pick up Murray. Draft Luwawu, trade Burke + a pick, take Murray. Gives us a wing defender that can shoot plus combo guard.
 
I see us drafting a SG or SF. The only way I see us drafting a PF is if we don't resign Booker and DL drafts a defensive-oriented PF.

But I will be surprised if it's not a SG or SF. I think Beasley & Brown will be alright but don't have high ceilings. Dejounte Murray won't do crap. I think Korkmaz has a high ceiling. I think he could be better than Hayward offensively. Korkmaz seems to have zero fear.

I still like Valentine as well.

What about a defensive-minded center with some potential, long-term, to hit the 3?

That's my point. The FO/coaches have talked up Kanter and Burke just like they talk up Exum. What makes you so certain Exum pans out? What happens if Exum ends up being a fringe starter, Hayward leaves next season, and Favors leaves the season after that? Not adding talent when the opportunity presents itself is far riskier than doing nothing and hoping it works out.

Gobert-Favors-Lyles at the 4/5 and Hayward-Hood-Burks at the 2/3 are far more proven and productive than Exum-Mack-Neto at the 1. Are you also suggesting the Jazz not add starting caliber players at other positions? Do you really think the Jazz have the talent to contend now and in the future?

Yeah, it's not as if he's had every opportunity over the last 3 years to prove himself. I say just give him another 5-6 years, and if he's not coming around by then, maybe it will be time to consider another direction.
