The question of whether or not to trade Big Al Jefferson has divided the board for a long time. I don't want this thread to be a re-hashing ground, but something tells me that it will be.

The poll is directed to those posters who are in favor of trading Al (no pun intended). Let's see if we can keep it that way.

How much would your feelings be salved if Jefferson were to come off the bench?

Letting his contract expire, and therefore not taking back any salary beyond this year in a trade, is an idea that has its merits.... as we are all aware.

VOTING IS PUBLIC.

I voted #3 but I don't hate Al. I just think he is the piece that should be traded in order to help the Jazz the most.

Now that I've voted, I can't see who has voted for what. Any suggestions on how I find out?

I'm for trading him, but only if the Jazz get back expirings and picks - or a deal like we got by trading Harris for Marvin. The player(s) acquired have to better than what we could do next summer in free agency. Otherwise, let his contract expire and go after 1-2 quality players who are worth more than the MLE. That eliminates a lot of bidders, including most contenders. Think of why Boozer and Memo ended up here.

I shouldn't have limited my new name to just Mo as I think the other Williams is going to be a helluva player for the Jazz. I can see KOC stepping in negotiating an extension after this season. So perhaps we'll only have room for 1 very good FA + our two first round picks. I'm guessing we'll have GS' pick at about 12 and ours at 20. Might be able to combine those and even jump into the top-10 if there's a young PG to be had.

I'm the only one to vote for the top choice. He's awful on defense and makes a ton of money but he could dominate off the bench like no one else in the league. That could be deadly.

gotta keep this **** bumped to the top... I know there are more than eight people who see no future for Al on the Jazz

also, how do I see who voted for what now that I've voted?!

Having your highest paid player that uses the most possessions on the team come off the bench is a new strategy to me.

Trade him. Also for what it's worth, I think he's poisoning Kanter. The player from the 2010 Hoops Summit appears to have vanished. Kanter's at his best when he just plays basketball, not when he does his best Al impersonation.

Al is too crucial to our current offensive-system to come off the bench. Either he continues to start, or he's traded. If Kanter picks it up this season, then I expect him to be heavily shopped towards the end of the season. Otherwise, it looks like Al might be here long-term if Kanter plateaus as a serviceable/great bench big man. Personally, I have faith in Kanter, and would enjoy a good Al trade, but Im beginning to think that Kanter still is a couple of years away from being a good starter on a playoff team,

If he came off the bench, then I'd be totally fine keeping him for this year only

I still don't like it, but I see the strategy, and I can get behind it. I suppose.

dfint you guys forgot thsis guy is a blahhog and a loooooser

ooh noos duncan is the pwnzor
ooh no spurs are unbeatable

trade his sorry ***.

geez people here tend to have short term emmory loss.

also he dosnt play a lick of (pick and roll) defense

I'll be honest, I sort of want him gone. Because I'll then proceed to wager on the under in every Jazz game. We may be more up tempo but I think we'll struggle to hit shots, especially late in the shot clock.

One of my biggest pet peeves with people here is when they let their hatred for a certain player blind them to reason. Al Jefferson as your main scoring option at 15 million is a completely different story than Al Jefferson off the bench at about half that much. I'm not saying Al would sign for 8 million, but hypothetically, if he was willing to give the Jazz a discount to remain in a situation he liked, and he was willing to come off the bench, then yes, my feelings completely change.

Therefore, I can't really vote in this poll, since I would actually re-sign him to come off the bench, if the price was right. It's not a likely scenario, but I do think Al is one of those players who takes it to heart when he gets traded, even more so than most. I believe he values the support of management to the point that he may be willing to take less money to stay somewhere he feels safe from being traded. I might be up in the night, but that's my gut feeling.

Also, just for the record, I think failing to move Al at the deadline could very well end up to be KOC's biggest mistake of his career.

Just in general, you click the number (any one of them) of the votes, and it will bring up a poll that shows the names underneeth.

Al's strength comes only from being the focal-point of the offense, which isn't a skill that translates well to the bench. It's like taking your PR guy, who's good but not quite as good as the new PR guy, and putting him in IT and expect the same type of production in a lesser role. Good luck.

I would change my mind about a lot of things if they fundamentally changed. What I'm saying here is I agree, but I think what you're posing is pretty unrealistic.

But yeah, if Jefferson came off the bench and played 24 minutes a game and was paid half of what he is now, my interest level in keeping him changes dramatically.

Dear OP, I didn't vote on your poll because I couldn't get past your wicked pun. To sum up my feelings, I will quote someone who says it much better than I:

People who point out their puns are like comedians who explain their jokes: they both think you're too stupid to get it. The only good thing about the phrase "pun intended" is that it saves you time when you want to say "hello, I'm going to be at the bag convention this weekend, please be sure to stop by and say 'hi.' I'll be at the douche exhibit." Here's the deal: when you point out your puns, you're making a value judgement on me, the reader. You're saying:

Hey reader, you see that play on words I just made? Yeah, well that wasn't an accident. In fact, I thought it was so clever that I didn't think your simple mind would be able to comprehend the brilliance of my play on words, and I wanted to make sure you know that I'm not only smart enough to use homonyms, but that I'm smart enough to point them out.

The sheer level of narcissism it takes to think that anyone gives a **** about whether or not you meant to write your pun is mind boggling. If narcissism were measured in units of mass, the skulls of people who pointed out puns would crush in on themselves in a giant black hole of stupidity.

The other variation of calling attention to a pun is the pun denial, or "no pun intended," which is a less formal way of saying:

Dear Reader,

Please direct your attention towards my pun. Admittedly I do think it's clever, but I think that you think so highly of me, that I want you to know that I would never resort to using such a commonplace literary device in my prose. Therefore, I would like to formally renounce my attempt at humor and assure you that I am above making puns as a writer, as a pupil of language, and as citizen of Earth.

Sincerest apologies,
D. Baggerson

The phrase "no pun intended" makes me want to band saw my dick off just in case I'm the last man alive and I have to risk repopulating Earth with some moron's incapable ******. There's no such thing as an unintentional pun; the act of typing the phrase "no pun intended" makes it intentional. If your pun truly wasn't intended, then why didn't you erase it and write something else, *******?

Let me just get in a world like this. You know what, you are right. Al would take a lesser role, just like he said he would last year, as long as it meant winning.

He's still worth more in trade immediately. But hell, if they don't, you might have a workable scenario.
