What's new

Absolutely HILARIOUS!

It's called sarcasm, it runs in my blood, and I apologize.

Griffin is good, and has the potential to be a HOF player, but lets give him 10 years first.

I was just spouting off on that old athleticism and speed crap I hear all the time.
Yes it is good to have, but desire, drive, determination, and hard work are more important.

You are exactly right. After all this is why the Jazz kept Adam Keefe on the team for so long. The man was a living legend.

Yes, there needs to be some amount of talent and athleticism to be able to compete, thank you... that is a given. So why was Keefe not HOF material, and yet Stockton was? Was it because Stockton could jump over people and dunk on them, while Keefe couldn't?

While there needs to be a minimum amount of physical requirements, to be an all-time great you need these other things I was talking about. How many great "talents" have flamed out and done nothing for one reason or another?

See bold above....

You're an idiot, because I watched Rome yesterday, and that's not what the guy said.

....excuse me, numbnuts....but that IS what he said: "Griffin will without question, be a better player than Malone was!" Maybe you can hunt down the actual dialogue for the show. He did not say anything about "potential"! Fact is, not only was Malone a more skilled player than Griffin will ever be, but one Karl Malone brain cell....would bust Griffins head wide open! Malone was probably the SMARTEST basketball player, to EVER play the game! Griffin has no jumpshot to speak of....and would have to have a total brain transplant to even come close to Malone's basketball IQ! I suspect Griffin will be out of the league before he even reaches half of any of Malone's totals!

...some clown on Jim Rome is Burning, an ESPN guy, said that there's no question Blake will be better than Karl Malone! Well, we know Blake can dunk.....but can he accumulate 33,000 points, 20,000 rebounds and average 55 wins a year? I don't think so!

I hate how the sports media has turned into a bunch of National Enquirer psychics who spend more time telling us about what is going to happen, instead of telling us about what DID happen.

I think Kevin Garnett during his MVP season was as impressive a PF as I've seen, although Malone's Game 5 in 1998 was legendary. Garnett had streaks when he could shoot on anyone, dunk on anyone, block anyone and outjump anyone for rebounds. Griffin has the physical tools though, no doubt.

Rookie Malone isn't even in the same ballpark as Rookie Griffin.

Nobody was in that ballpark.

I remember Derrick Coleman having the skill level to be greater than the Mailman. However, work ethic and desire also are critical components to the equation.

Growing up I was a huge Shawn Kemp fan. I thought that boy would be awesome some day. I was crushed when he lost the slam dunk contest to freaking Dee Brown (with the pump up Reeboks). Anyway, who knew then that the only record Kemp would hold would be the number of children around the country. All that said, I think desire and work ethic are huge. If Griffin works his butt off I don't see any reason why he couldn't be like Malone.

20k boards? Last time I checked, Malone was a few shy of 15k rebounds.

Yep. 14968 rebounds, 36928 points. And Malone was a serious rebounder. He averaged 10.1 per game for his career, over 19 seasons, the model of consistency. Means that for Griffin to catch Malones career total of rebounds in a "normal" to longer length career....say 14 years...he will have to average 13 boards per game. If he were to play 12 years it would have to be 15 rpg. Either way that would be some pretty elite company there.
