ACLU and Muslims demand freedom of speech ...

I agree, let him speak. (then wait for him to get to his car, and beat the piss out of him)

I agree with them. It's obviously political speech. Bill Maher's take on this was actually pretty interesting a couple weeks ago.

Those murders who destroyed the lives of those Americans, were they peace loving Democratic law abiding citizens of Afghanistan previous to the burning?

Was the American burning of their Holy Book really what changed them?

Or were these individuals merely looking for an excuse? Or someone to blame for their heinous actions?

Everyone and their dog is tripping over themselves to throw this American pastor over a cliff. Yet, are radical Muslims killing Americans because of this pastor? Or are they killing Americans off because of some other reason? Perhaps... For power? For money? Because of Christianity? Western immodesty/capitalism? Or because their tribe/leader hates Karzai? Or maybe even Karzai paid/arranged to get these Americans knocked off so that he could claim that without the US's money, he'd lose control of his country and all the fighting for the last 10 years would be in vain?

There's a lot to consider in nation building... Especially when you nation build a region that for centuries has been ungovernable, is known for ruthless killing, and whose primary religion has a long antagonistic history with your primary religions(Jewish/Christian).

That's why things aren't quite as simple as Millsapa and Palin want you to believe. It's not quite as simple as wrapping yourself with the American flag while touting "We're bringing freedom and Democracy to the Middle East!" All while claiming "Mission Accomplished" on top of an Aircraft Carrier....

Gee, Bill Maher supporting the burning of "sacred" religious artifacts? What a surprise. And all this time I imagined Maher as a God-fearing religious wacko who would scream in offense for any apparent disrespect towards religion....

Your statement indicates that you don't actually know what his take was.

He had some statements on his show recently acknowledging that a) he had the right to do it, b) it was a bad idea, but c) he kind of unintentionally proved his point re: some level of innate violence in the Islamic community because there was a swift and violent reaction to the burning, including one organization placing a $1.2 million bounty on Jones head.

Maher was bemoaning the fact that some radical Muslims couldn't help themselves from reacting even though in doing so they were lending credence to what Jones, who's kind of a terrible person, was saying.

But nice try. I suspect this experience will not prevent you from speaking in ignorance in the future.

Cool man!

I personally think that Maher made some good points. Islam's hypocrisy was exposed.

However, I just get a kick out of someone talking about Maher's take. As if he was going to support censorship for religion. lol... Of course Maher's for free speech if it makes religion(s) look bad.
Christians look bad, like they were trying to provoke something.
Muslims look bad, because for a religion that is trying to convince us they aren't a bunch of murderous wackos, they're doing one hell of a job of demonstrating the opposite!
