Al Jefferson to Utah? ...Mark Stein's Twitter reports

I remember Rambis stating that he had trouble keeping Love and Jefferson on the court at the same time because neither one of them could play center. He may be an inch taller, but he's very similar defensively to Boozer. How do we expect Jefferson to start next to Millsap?
 
I say do it, its a risk with his injury history and if he can play center, but if it works out, we can compete for a top 4 seed.

Not only that, I think overall he may be more talented than Boozer, not to mention 4 years younger. Deron will probably notice that too and it certainly won't hurt our chances of retaining him. It blows me away that all Jazz fans want is to get younger/better/taller and an option comes along who in regards to Boozer is quite possibly better, is certainly younger and taller and over the next 3 years isn't any more expensive than Boozer will be for Chicago. Plus he seems much tougher than Booz. Even though he was fighting through an injury last year the guy still played something like 75 games.


I like him, I want him and I'm going to throw an internet tantrum if Utah doesn't get him.

While you see his positives, I see his negatives. He's weaker and less athletic than Boozer. Has shown he's not terribly great in a structured offense (hated the Triangle), needs high usage to be effective, and is undersized for the position he'd play for the Jazz (center). His defense in the games I've seen him is worse than Boozer's. While he'll get a few blocks here and there, Boozer would get some steals and hands in the passing lane here and there.

I feel his negatives outweigh his positives for the salary he would be getting.
 
Well, well, well, what do you know? KOC finally started moving his behind a little bit. He did assess the situation on Monday, as he promised and attempts to go in the right direction. Perhaps reading this board steered him the the right direction ;). Let's see if he can deliver the goods now that Jefferson has his attention.
 
Jefferson is a legit low post presence for a team that at this point has zero. We NEED talent on this team with all the defections and this is a good move if KOC can get it done.

I will tell you this much. If KOC manages to pull the trigger on this one and brings back Brewer, all of the sudden we will find ourselves an improved team with some long term potential. I would be pretty pissed if Dallas steals Jefferson even after KOC is on the mo fo.
 
Does anyone know what Mehmet Okur's wingspan is? I don't care about height when comparing Jefferson to Okur.

Just curious who has a longer reach. Jefferson is more athletic obviously so just curious if anyone knows.

Jefferson: 7' 2.5"

Millsap: 7' 1.5"

Boozer: 7' 2.25"

Okur: ?

Just curios, are those from when they where drafted? If so, its very reasonable to think Jefferson could have a 1-2 inch improvement, since he was drafted straight out of Highschool.

I'm not saying he's not an injury risk, but since arriving in Minny 3 years ago, Jefferson has played in 85% of his games. That's certainly better than the 70% rate Carlos was giving us. Again, I'll admit Jefferson is somewhat of an injury risk, but it's a pretty good calculated risk the Jazz should take.

Darkwing, you make some good points against Jefferson. It's still not enough to sway me though. There's also your insinuation that he may struggle in any structured offense and I think I disagree with that the most. From what I understand, the triangle is not easy to incorperate. While I give Rambis props for trying, I really doubt he's the man to get players to buy into that complex of an offense. There's only 1 coach in the NBA that I know of who has shown sustained success with the triangle.

Utah's offense, while structured is about 1 million times more simple than the triangle and power forwards tend to thrive in it. Even after Malone, guys like Michael Freaking Ruffin were able to be effective in it. Not to mention Boozer and Millsap. That may be the biggest reason I'm so high on Jefferson. In this system he could be an absolute beast.
