I don't know much about alcoholism. I suppose lung cancer or obesity or even sleep disorders might be considered somehow the consequence of our own lack of good judgment or self-control. If treating it seriously as a disease can help folks get better, more power to those who call it a disease and try to help cure it or treat it.

It's addictive therefore it's a disease. Willpower alone may be able to get some people over it but not all or even most if they are actual alcoholics. Is it in the same category as cancer no. But just because it's not does not mean it's not a disease.

I you have a lesser disease how the **** are you slapping the face of somebody with a worse disease? Why would they really care if you have something less than them. They are more worried about their own problems than what somebody else calls their affliction.

Your antics in the other thread and this show that you just have not seen somebody who is truly an alcoholic. Which pretty much means your point of view here is mostly worthless. It also shows how immature and pathetic you are when you tell a doctor that something they have declared a disease is not.

as i stated in another post.

the disease excuse. takes power away from the alcoholic. with no power over their drinking what can they do as i stated in another thread.

medical professionals and American culture lovingly embraced the disease concept and quickly applied it to every possible deviant behavior from alcohol abuse to you name it.

Research has shown that alcoholism is a choice, not a disease, and stripping alcohol abusers of their choice, by applying the disease concept, is a threat to the health of the individual.(not to mention a threat to my kids when they are old enough to play outside. some drunk driver might kill them)

also note
the disease excuse removes responsibility from the alcoholic. as a disease cannot be healed by will, so adding the disease label transfers the responsibility from the alcoholic to others. so they become the victims, and sooner ot later they take on that role.

the first 2 steps of AA (the only treatment to alcoholism)
1.We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.(weak cant do anything about)
2.Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.(again weak and powerless)

also if an alcoholic is powerless to this disease shouldn't dui and vehicular manslaughter/homicide not be punishable by law since its a "recognized disease" which we are powerless against.

also the only "treatment" to alcoholism is live long attendance to an aa meeting. it is free but a basket is passed for donations. hmm sounds like a cult

Exactly. Genetic predilection makes you more of a target to become addicted to alcohol - you develop a chemical dependency on it. Chemical dependence is, in many ways, excruciating to "get over." Why do you think millions of smokers fail in quitting smoking each day?
