What's new

Alec Burk Disscusion

He should be a sophomore in college and maybe he's playing like one, so what... who cares, so what!

If he had stayed in college this year would've been his junior year. Burks isn't doing much to help the team win, that's why he's not getting as much playing time, not because he's black!!

I don't think the point is how he is playing the point is why is KOC saying this about his lottery pick? And why is Carrol getting more minutes than Kanter and Burks? Production goes up with confidence and confidence is built with playing time.

Burks and Carroll play themselves off the court. Kanter is just behind some other guys who are better right now.

Burks is the better player he isn't going to show that till he get playing time. There are all of these other young wings like Klay Thompson and Luke Babbit that are clearly showing that if you trust and play your young players they will develop.

It's not just lately - he's been playing like that all season. He shoots at roughly the same rate (per minute), shoots better for 2 but worse for 3, but because he misses from 2 feet instead of 20 feet, everyone has been giving him a free pass because he 'attacks', draws fouls (so does Miles, but CJ shoots nearly 80% from the line, Burks a woeful 70%) and he makes the occasional circus shot lay-up. The only thing he does better than CJ is shoot inside the arc at a slightly better rate, rebound more often, and foul less.

I know a lot of posters are excited about his style, but so far I see no substance to his game.

i guess my point is that, for months, his calling card was that he attacked more than CJ. in the last several games, he's been basically all jumpers, and he hasn't been doing all those extra things that endeared us to him before -- like battling in traffic for putbacks and O-rebs.

I'm not sure if the guys on 1280 even know what shape a basketball is. I never give their opinions regarding the NBA any credence.

burks has been doing his best CJ miles impression lately. and i mean bad cj, the one that chucks, plays weak D and never passes, not even good CJ that opens up the floor.

last two games:
2-for-6 shooting, 1 rebound, 0 FTAs, -15 on court (all jumpers except for that one out-of-control runner where he jumped from behind the plane of the board and got blocked)
1-for-5 shooting, 2 rebounds, 2 FTAs, -12 on court (all jumpers except for one layup)

absolutely love the kid, but looking at that, it's hard to not conclude that the guy is basically turning down an open invitation to get more minutes.

So your going to write off a kid that's not only a rookie but because of his last two games. ?????? stupid in its finest form.

Yes, yes he is. Well that or he's using statistics and reasoning in responding to the OP who is just trying to do his best Jerry Springer (starting drama) using his favorite scape goat KOC. I didn't hear this and haven't heard anybody else talk about it to confirm this even happened, lets even pretend it did happen what the context to which it was said.

Meh I give up, KOC is dah worst ever I hear every day when he tries to tie his shoes he kills a puppy and then out of anger he uses that dead puppy to kill a kitten and then at night before going to bed he sucks the spinal fluid from baby fetuses.

Burks will be fine. People don't realize the rookie wall is mental as well as it is physical.

When you hit the wall your performance drops but you start making bad decisions as well.

I can't believe we got this kid at 12 - and he's already shown me enough for this season.

But what can ya do - bitches gonna bitch.

calm down, pal.

no, i'm not "writing him off." read my post. not every statement about how a guy is performing currently is an end-all-be-all statement.

i said i absolutely love the kid, i just also said that lately he hasn't been playing as aggressively as he did before and he's settling for off-balanced jumpers way too much. but he's 811 total minutes into his career, so there's no trend that can't be fixed at this point.

Burks will probably be fine, but my biggest problem with his play so far has been his complete inability to grasp the concept that he does NOT have to crowd players at the half-court line, particularly players that are faster than him. He just defends like a dumbass.

I'd rather have someone that has to be trained to not do that than someone that just doesn't care. But still, he defends like an idiot.

and he gets steals doing that

Steals are overrated. When it happens, great, but more often than not, overplaying the passing lanes ends poorly. I think steals is the most overrated category, followed closely by blocks. They're both exciting, but fail miserably at telling the whole defensive story.

It is my belief that the coaches are telling him to "press" his man to try to disrupt the offense. They are probably coaching him to do that to take advantage of his quickness.

I dont think he would continue to do that and get beat unless he was told to do it.
