Alec Burks Highlights vs. Kings

I wonder if sacramento fans were thinking...what the hell, why did we draft Jimmer and not Burks?

I thought Jimmer played fairly well in the limited playing time and with Smart riding his *** the whole time even when he made a nice play. But Thomas played really really well down the stretch, so I see why he is getting more PT.

Many of us have been calling for this for weeks, and we now have way more than enough evidence (this is especially true given our fated losing), to DEMAND that Burks be given some run at the PG.

He has shown the ability and desire to defend (the PG and others)
He has demonstrated passing ability
He has demonstrated slashing ability
His history tells the story of what he does with the ball in his hands. Put the ****ing ball in his hands.

This is all especially important because we can play Hay at the 2 more often. Do it. now.

Burks highlights are starting to become my favorite thing to watch this season (Kanter's highlights are my next favorite to watch). Burks is fun to watch and gets better and better the more comfortable he gets on the court. Hopefully he keeps getting the mins, but I worry about what happens when bell returns.

I dont get why people said he was going to have to work on his shot. Burks shot is silky smooth. I think he is going to be a great shooter. He already is a really good shooter. Its crazy how Hayward came in labled as a shooter and Burks wasnt. Burks shot looks way better than Haywards

His shot inside the 3 pt line is fine. It's his three point shooting that needs work, and I, in my vast, but limited basketball knowledge, think that will come as he gets stronger.

Why is it a question of strength? These aren't medicine balls. And is 39% bad?

Burks has been really fun to watch this year. He makes some rookie mistakes, but he plays very very hard and shows flashes of brilliance that give me hope he could develop into a VERY good player.

He's already better than CJ, in my opinion.

I think he is clearly better the CJ. I think Burks needs to start getting 25+ minutes a game. Kid has heart, hustles and has talent out the wazoo.

This performance was against the Kings so settle your hyper *** down.
Let's start with demanding no more DNP's, no more CJ (ever), under 25 minutes for Jefferson, and for Hayward to shoot that beautiful stop-and-pop that he hit last night on a fast break.

All CJs minutes to Burks and Hayward should be shooting 5-6 of those stop and pops a game.

Being a Point Gaurd has a lot more to it than just 'passing ability'.
You have to be able to run the team, be a leader, set the offense and set the defense.
Basically, the best point gaurd is the one that is an extension of the coach on the floor. I don't see that in Burks.

IMHO, Burks has more potential to be a star SG than a good PG.

That being said, man what a steal in a crappy draft class!

Five years from now, I bet most people will think we took Burks #3 and Kanter #12.

I think people will be wondering how in the hell the Jazz hit two grandslams in the same draft.

Burks should get 30 minutes. I almost cried when he went baseline and made that crazy reverse. If he got 30 minutes in a game, this board will implode.

This kid needs to turn his body into DWade's. Adding 3-4 inches vertical would do wonders. The leg strength that goes along with it would really help him control his body while juking and breaking ankles.

This. Filling his body out with another 10-15 pounds of muscle while still becoming more explosive would get this kid going where he should be...holding a Larry O'Brien Trophy for us.

What the hell are you talking about? Now you're poo poo hang time and the ability to shoot over a player or elevate quickly to get a shot off under control before it gets blocked? Stronger legs help players shoot accurate fade away jumpers. Stronger legs allow Flash to maneuver through traffic without going off balance. Hops aren't just about running to the rim and dunking.

Kobe and Wade both shoot over players because they quickly elevate under control and get consistent height. Players have to play tight because they'll nail an outside shot if the defender slacks off. That allows them to draw fouls and to blow past players for easy layups.

Burks has an opportunity to take his game to the next level here and there is no reason he shouldn't demand that of himself.

Well if you want to add that strength, added weight is going to come. I don't think he can improve his vertical 3-4 more inches without sacrificing in another area (getting smaller/weaker (Why do you think Evans can jump so high?)). It's not like vertical leaping ability is just some unlimited resource that players just have to want.

And all those things you are talking about aren't factors of improvement of maximum vertical, they are improvement of core strength and balance.

I highly doubt Burks is an actual 39% 3pt shooter. Right now he is doing a good job of not taking them, and he has made a nice % of the few he has taken.

Frankly, decision making is an even more important skill than shooting ability! CJ could easily be a 39% 3 pt shooter if he would pull his head out of his *** and only take the easy ones. Burks may not be a great 3pt shooter at this point, but at least he realizes it and only shoots when he has nobody close to him.

I hope he can continue to improve, but he has impressed me quite a bit. He attacks the basket, plays good D, and routinely will get an assist or two that make you say WOW.
