Jordan had Pippen but who else? Kukoc? Longely? Kerr? ... pretty much all the rings that Bulls won in that era I think most people would consider to be a carry job by Jordan?

I mean there always has to be a best player on a team (14 Spurs and 04 Pistons being possible exceptions). "Carry" obviously is super subjective, but for me those Bulls don't meet the carry status. I think Jordan was clearly the best player, but I also think the team would have been good without him and even possibly titleworthy if he was substituted out for another star level player. The Bulls success in 93-94 makes me think it wasn't a "carry" by Jordan. Grant/Rodman/PJax also being big players in various titles.

To each their own really though :)

Olajuwon and Walton are really the only two players to carry a team to a championship (LeBron and Iverson came close).

These were the five best players on Olajuwon's first championship team (1993-94):

Hakeem Olajuwon
Otis Thorpe
Vernon Maxwell
Kenny Smith
Chris Jent

These were the five best players on Walton's first championship team (1976-77):

Bill Walton
Maurice Lucas
Lionel Hollins
Bob Gross
Larry Steele

I mean Lucas had a few good years and so did Hollins, but neither are in the Hall of Fame. Same goes for Thorpe, he had a few good years, but nobody on that team is in the Hall of Fame either. I mean nobody else on those rosters were picked in this thing and I'm sure you have heard of a few of them, but none of them make you think "star".

Dennis Rodman.

I'd say Jordan/Pippen carried their team, but they complemented each other very well. Rodman was a stud, but he wasn't the difference maker that 23/33 were.

Phil jackson (hall of fame)
Pippen (hall of fame)
Rodman (hall of fame)
Kerr
Kukoc
Harper
Horace grant

He had very good supporting casts.

I think the bulls even made the playoffs when he left to play baseball

Thank you for pointing out OneLove's absurd statement. Kerr is one of the greatest three point and free throw shooters ever. Grant was a very good fringe all-star who could be counted on for 16/9 or so, maybe even 18/9 if memory serves me. A tough dude too. BJ Armstrong and Ron Harper, their point guards over their six rings I think, we're very solid point guards who could run an offense and score. Heady ballplayers. Luc Longley was a big ****ing dude (7'1", 285 if memory serves) and tough as hell. Toni Kukoc was an almost fringe all-star type dude who was huge in the clutch.

To your last statement, when Jordan retired, Pippen helped lead the Bulls to a game 7 in the Eastern Conference Semis, losing out to the Knicks who ended up going to the Finals. So yeah, a team with "nobodies" was one win away from being in the Eastern Conference Finals.

Good matchup Spy. The voting didn't really reflect it, but I was very concerned about the Olajuwon/Bird pairing being too much to overcome. Getting lucky enough to nab Pippen, Ewing and Payton was the key. Usually those guys will be gone earlier than where I got them. Without that type of 1990's Dream Team fearsome foursome, I probably get my *** kicked in this thing.

And for the record, I very nearly made the same offer to WC that Spy did. He just made it first. I was hoping to target Magic, but a Jordan/Bird pairing would have been pretty effing epic also.

Jordan/Bird would've been better IMO and an unstoppable force.

A worthy winner. Congrats Ellis.

Thanks. I got lucky in the draw, and then the board fell almost exactly how I hoped it would until the 5th and 6th rounds. By that time, my core was in place and the hard part was selling my team in the head to head matchups. Some guys are a lot better at that than I am. :)
