No way in hell is Yao anywhere near even the top 15 offensive centers of all time. I could easily name 15 I'd rather have. Yao was a slow and terrible player. He hurt the Rockets when he played with McGrady in my opinion. I felt they were a much better team with Yao off the floor. No way in hell is he a top 5-6 center.

Yao had maybe the most diverse offensive skillset of any center, as he could play in the post, take complete advantage of his size, and step out and hit the three, but I am not sure he was as offensively aggressive and willing to put his team on his shoulders like Shaq, Kareem, Ewing, Wilt, Hakeen, etc. could and did.

Yao was so adept at stepping out and hitting the three that he hit two in his entire career.

you bozos are mistaking talent vs. skill.

melo is far more skilled offensively than lebron ever will be. but bron is better offensive player. grasp this concept or don't talk basketball.

It's your own damn fault, you're the one who started this retarded conversation by saying Yao was a top 5 offensive center of all time, not that he was the top 5 "most skilled" offensively.

I can't believe in an all time draft with players like Jordan and Wade going up against each other we've spent five pages talking about Yao ****ing Ming.

i stand by what i said. this is not a career debate. and i'm only going by his short lived 40-50 games 'i'm about to enter my prime' prime. yes, that's a barely half a season. i can do that because we are just speculating for this hypothetical nba draft. in that short stretch yao wasn't 'terrible'. lol terrible player doesn't put up 25pts in 33 min. he was so great that even with his physical limitation he still put up 25pt. that's greatness.

yao was 7ft 6 pau gasol with mchale like footwork.

you guys have no idea how great yao could've been.

Is this the All-Time Hypothetical NBA Draft?

Wasn't it you who also said Aaron Harrison would be a top 5 pick in the 2014 draft?

obviously. because guys like brandon roy, ralph sampson are in it. sampson never even reached his prime. we have no idea how great sampson could've been. akeem's presence slowed his progress down. who knows sampson could've been the next kareem?

it's all speculation. in that short span, yao made me to think that he could eventually be a 30/10 guy in 3 years. i drew that conclusion because i looked around the league. league was changing. there is no dominant center left anymore. in the west, it would've been yao vs. bynum and rest of the league would be just a bunch of small team with stretch 4/5. and it seemed realistic because yao's stamina was actually getting better and tmac just couldn't find his offensive mojo anymore with his back problem. so rockets would've been heavily dependent on yao's offense and tmac's playmaking ability. 30/10 was not as unrealistic as most would think.

but of course crap happened and yao was never the same.

anyway, if that really happened yao would've been the first center to avg 30/10 since Kareem did it in 1975.

i think i said top 10 is a possibility if he measures well in the draft process. but we all have hits and misses, don't we? i was 100% convinced that greg oden would be the next big thing. i also was totally convinced that telfair would be a good player. i thought blake griffin would be a total flop.

well that's why i'm just an armchair guy.

but i also said mitch mcgary is a clearly a 1st rounder and will eventually be better than kanter. i got laughed at for saying that. and i still stand by it. mcgary has better basketball IQ, better hands, and has ability to run and still be nasty. i see him becoming bill laimbeer type. true enforcer with bbiq. kanter? i see him being a career disappointment. i'm not optimistic about kanter. i was also very high on guys like paul george. too bad he broke his leg.

If you take the best 1-2 years of AK and Ming, you can certainly make a case. Ming was plagued by injuries and AK by Russian novels.
Not sure what the rules are: do you judge by overall careers, or just by each player at his peak?

I simply can't vote against a backcourt of the GOAT and the Big O.
