What's new

Andre Iguadala

Come on. There's like only 5-6 PGs in the league that are pass first anymore.

Favors needs to be fed. Kanter needs to learn to be fed. Gordon is a smart player that would only be better with a point like this. Burks is not as ready to score off the pass but hopefully can become that.

Utah Bigs will be vastly improved with an upgrade in the passing skills in the PG position. Vastly. Rondo is conceivably available, Nash is a possibility. It can happen. IMO Utah needs that passer much more than any other one thing.

I know we need a passing PG, but they're super rare. Stupid league. Don't think we're going to get Rondo. Nash......maybe.

Iggy might not be the missing piece, but he's certainly a very good piece to have. I don't think our team is built yet. I mean, replacing the inefficienct Raja Bell, Miles, and Howard for Iggy plus getting rid of inefficient Big Al will almost certainly make us from an 8th playoff seed to around the 3-5 range.
We're crap at the SF spot right now and Carrolle is not a starter. Hayward is an advantage at the 2 spot.
think an Iggy for Al swap should be pursued big time unless we want Josh Howard AND Big Al starting next year.

Those things you mention are almost all distractions. IMO.

You're right, a real all-NBA passer isn't going to be easy to get. But available, Rondo is. Nash is. Rondo because Boston will know now that they are done winning LOBs with this lineup. It's time for a rebuild. If Utah took on PP's contract for, say, Al, this is a realistic trade. PP btw is 2 years. Not horrible. It is a very reasonable scenario that Utah could have the exact pieces to make moving Rondo possible.

Nash is less likely IMO. He will obviously choose where to go, and will pick an established group of vets like himself. NYK seems like a likely destination.

There is a 3rd option which is trading into the draft for Marshall but I do not like that. Truly IMO it's Rondo or bust.

Agree to disagree....but I like the lineup of
Harris
Hayward
Iggy
Milsap
Favors

compared to:

Nash
Hayward
Howard
Favors
Big Al

The way I see it, in lineup 1 we have no inefficient starter (maybe Harris is probably the worst, but he's actually pretty good IMO) whereas with lineup 2, you've got 2 of them playing 30+ minutes a game. Maybe Howard plays, 20 but that's not the point. You give 50 minutes to 2 players that are likely going to cost you maybe 4-10 points a game every game depending on their minutes. That's going to get you a lot more losses.

Not only that, but lineup 1 is a defensive beast. Besides Milsap, everyone else is at least an above average defender. I think lineup 1 is a top 10 defensive team.

Now if you get Rondo, that's a different story altogether. I just think that Rondo will go to the first team that overpays Boston if Boston IS looking to trade him.
I don't think Boston will take Big Al in a Rondo trade because they''ll be looking to rebuild and will want fresh legs. (I also didn't put Rondo in lineup 2 because I wouldn't know what you'd trade to get him. He's a superstar now and his value is probably insane. I think Boston would probably want Favors or Hayward in a Rondo trade)

Just to add to this you have 4 players on your team that could average 5 assists per game if not 5. The ball doesn't have to be dominated by the pg. iggy can pass, Harris is learning, Hayward can pass., burks is a capable passer, Watson is pass first. The team is built to play as a team.

You always have the possibility to pick up a pg in fa or the draft. Ideally if we get iggy I would like to see lillard in a jazz jersey. Not sure how that would happen but would make this team very good. (maybe at 10 with trading Harris)

My reasoning is based on fulfilling the potential of the bigs. A real assist machine like Rajon or Nash would maximize their abilities much better than adding a very good all around guy like Iggy. Of course if a Rondo deal is impossible I like taking him for Al, and also signing Nash.

Yep that's also true. Except I hope Watson is out next year in favor of Tinsley.
Also, you're going to get your hopes crushed with the Harris for Lilliard thing. I don't think KOC is going to trade a top 10 PG in Harris for an unproven rookie.

I used to think the same thing, and in fact that's why I was on the Kendall Marshall bandwagon but I rethought it out and it makes more sense to me to put 5 really good players on the court and to have at least 3 of those players have a clear advantage over the opposition.

Not really seeing ANY stats that are top ten, let alone his entire play.

Hence, i'd risk his abilities for lillard everytime.
