Andy Larsen's Article from Last Night - A Local Guy Going Hard

This could be right. With all the hope now, we’ll eventually be talked down lower and lower to the point where we’d all be excited. This would work really well with the HH theorem of always being 12 months behind on moves, because he would have been a decent pickup last year.

So far as money goes, we simply don’t have the money. The Pistons can’t be that dumb. They’re not gonna throw 20M a year at him but why would they just do the full MLE knowing other teams can do the same? They’ll probably offer him 4/60 or thereabouts.

I highly doubt we can move Conley. Knowing that, we’ll have the MLE to work with. The best guys will go to the Clips, Lakers, Heat, etc. We’ll get the leftover scraps. That’s PP. Zanik will spin it that we needed toughness, leadership and the ability to stretch the floor at the 4. As if he was so coveted by us. We’ll mourn. And the world turns.

2Pat was washed two seasons ago. No way that's the route we go.

So with Wood I think he gets MLE or better, but the smart people I listen to... that have front office sources (Duncan said he talked with some iirc) seem to think he is somewhere in the 6-7M range unless a team gets wild and offers MLE. I think we could do a sign and trade with the Pistons too... they may not want to keep him if the price is too high... they are a few years away from being a few years away. So its about asset accumulation... if they feel Wood on a 4/60M is a better asset than expirings and whoever we draft then that's fine. If he goes for a penny less than the full MLE then we messed up.

I went through this with Bjelica a couple years ago. I thought he'd get MLE for 3 years or close to it... he seemed to be worth it... he took half that from the Sixers then Vlade gave him a sliver more... we apparently had interest in him at some point but I'm sure our very active and aggressive offer was less than what he got... had we matched it hes a great role player on a value deal or a trade asset.

Wood is a bigger swing because there are still concerns there... but a much bigger reward. The bigger issue is I doubt we even make a call because he got a B- once in middle school and his extracurriculars are pretty light... he's only a life scout... we are eagle scouts only. We can't confirm it, but there are rumors he TP'd a house once and that **** ain't tolerated.

Especially since we will all learn that Conley was never really healthy all year this year. The front office will be on top of it and he’s expected to be back fully healthy and the front office is really excited to see what he can do when he’s 100%.

Has nothing to do with stupid ASG selections.

Teams are going small and The Jazz have no answers - and the fact that they have no answer is killing their confidence as a team and causing them to get frustrated which translates to you and me as a lack of effort.

The whole defense is predicated on the fact that "Rudy has your back." When that doesn't happen the system collapses like a house of cards.

Not sure what the answer is, maybe modified zone when teams go small, but the ship is taking on water here.
no kidding, That Hou game broke us. they basically showed everyone the right strategy to play us. just take rudy out of the game then anyone can beat us.

Good for Larsen calling the team out and I agree that our biggest issues are on the defensive end. The problem as I see it is that we’ve lost whatever street cred we once had. We’re getting creamed in the paint. Seems nobody’s afraid of Mr Gobert anymore. Like some quantum leap in evolution, players like Westbrook have made scoring on Gobert child’s play as he was seen rocking the baby after doing so. It’s not like we have a second rim protector anymore, Hell, that went out with small ball and spacing the floor.

The problem with the Jazz nerds is they don’t actually pay attention to the games anymore just relying on analytics and trends. How else to explain their move away from Faves and towards forwards that don’t board or play interior D and an undersized back court. Hell the Rockets might not be tall inside but they ain’t small-they’ll all lay you out given the chance. Truth is I wouldn’t give Gobert two minutes against Tucker. But the real question is: what do the Jazz do after a gargantuan team like the Lakers or the Bucks win it all?

I'll throw this out for discussion sake: Trade Rudy for as much as you can get and you have to fill the void: Bradley, Willie Reed, Isaac Haas for the position, the treasure Rudy brings back and the rest of the team intact good, bad or indifferent.

The lack of effort here from the two time defensive player of the year is startling. And it's definitely not just Rudy, no one looks like they're even trying right now.
