I'm really not sure what people are expecting. The Jazz announcing crew are pretty much of your average small market team quality - no better, no worse. I listen to all of them on league pass and with a few exceptions play-by-play guys are all made up of about 15-20 catch phrases wrapped around moments of varying degrees of mediocrity.

Color guy are just individuals who have some sort of identity with the franchise - player, coach, etc...they're not even expected to be good or insightful; which is a shame because every market probably has a thousand guys who would be a thousand times better and would kill to have a job like that. Some of them are beyond awful (e.g. Austin Carr, Tommy Heinson, Sean Elliott and that idiot in Houston whose name I can't remember) the rest are just plain bad.

I started this thread during the game because that's what message boards are for. The crazy thing about message boards is that I commented how ecstatic I was in the game thread about how the Jazz were playing. Then in a different thread on the message board, I could comment on the bumbling Boone and simple Bolerjack. Crazy how the internet works, right?
 
I love boler. Would be pissed if he were replaced.

I like Boone with boler better than hapring or brown.
 
Going to the games is awesome for a lot of reasons. Right near the top, though, is getting to watch and hear the game without announcers. Ok, I'll be more specific: without have to hear Bolerhack. He's terrible.

Last night, my girlfriend was clowning around, talking about CONFIDENCE after every bucket for the first 6 or 7 minutes. I had to ask her, sincerely, to please stop. The people around us were enjoying the jokes, but I've seriously had enough of that concept. For life. Thanks Boler.
 
We were spoiled for so long with Hot Rod. I don't expect in my lifetime to see another Jazz announcer reach that level of mastery.

I like Boler. No problem at all with him.

As a person, I love Ron Boone, but I've never found his color commentary particularly useful or insightful, and he does seem to have difficulty expressing thoughts clearly. I'd like to see him stick around as, say, a post game commentator, as he is a franchise icon, but it's time, I think, to transition him out of the game calling and get someone there who can contribute more and do so in coherent sentences.

You should play the same game but drink when Boler reminds us that Withey is the leading shot blocker in Kansas history
 
Boler just doesn't know basketball. He is constantly confused by what call is being made and has always said stuff that just doesn't work for basketball. For example you can hammer down dunks, but you don't hammer down jumpers.

Hot Rod was the greatest. I loved that drunk *******! My dad had drinks with him a few times at this dive bar... said he was the best guy.
 
I generally like Boler, but I am really tired of hearing that the replay center is in Secaucus NJ. Seriously, is there some mandate that requires him to tell us the replay center is in Secaucus every single time? As soon as something goes to replay I start laughing because I know it is coming.

I wouldn't go as far to say he doesn't know basketball but Boler is more a professional announcer than a "basketball guy".

That's why a lot of his play-by-play comes across as awkward or inorganic.
