Ya, there's that. Either way, the Jazz don't have any cap space to sign free agents.
Does anyone know if a TPE can be used in a sign and trade? That's why I brought up Wilson Chandler.

If TPE's have a cap hold associated then the Jazz won't be able to sign a free agent and then use the TPE in addition.
Also be aware that while the term "Traded Player exception" refers to the entire exception which allows teams to make trades above the salary cap (including simultaneous trades, non-simultaneous trades, and base year compensation), it is also commonly used to refer to the one-year monetary credit teams receive while a non-simultaneous trade is pending completion. Be aware of this potential ambiguity, which was made worse by the current CBA (earlier CBAs used the term "Assigned Player exception" to refer to the entire exception).
No it didn't. Exceptions of all types are called that because they are exceptions to the rule that teams must stay below the salary cap. Any exceptions that a team has - such as the mid-level, Bird rights, and trade exceptions - are added to actual salary to determine whether or not a team is over the cap. If this total is less than the salary cap, the exceptions all go away (the fact we got a TPE for Memo is proof we are over the cap), and the team has cap room to sign free agents or to take traded players in without sending back salary. If not, the team is over the cap and can't sign free agents without using one of their exceptions. Since we already used one of these exceptions to sign Josh Howard, we can only sign our own FAs (using the Bird Rights exception), or sign players to minimum salary (another exception). The Memo trade put the Jazz under the salary cap...

So that means holding on to it until next season would defeat the purpose. That's good news for impatient Jazz fans who want to see something happen sooner rather than later. I'm still betting Utah will use this to take on an unwanted player, and in the process pick up another asset.
I'm not so sure they'll be any better off waiting for free agency. Hoops Hype has them at $48.2mm this offseason, without CJ's cap hold, which I believe will be more than his current salary. 125% or 150% comes to mind but I'm not sure the exact amount. Jeremy Evans is excluded, so add a million and a half or so depending on the season. Earl Watson's 2nd year is not included and I believe they'll have rights to Josh Howard as well. Even if they renounce every one of these (except Watson), they'll only have, what, roughly $10mm to sign free agents with?
The TPE is $10,890,000 + 100,000, so let's call it $11mm. Adding trade flexibility probably makes it a skosh more useful than free agency.

Can't find any info on what Watson will be getting. Only number I saw for Howard wat 1yr/3M.
To be honest, I've been anticipating a move with Al to clear some more capspace. Obviously that's not a given, but I think it's a bigger possibilty than a lot of fans want to believe. So yeah, I was leaving that out. If Utah keeps Al, then you're right, they're not going to have much for capspace anyway. Even if they renounce CJ, Howard and Evans, they'll likely add 1 or 2 rookies.
So I guess what I meant, is that keeping the TPE until next season would pretty much negate moving Al to gain capspace.
So, I guess I'm 50/50 on what Utah is going to do from this point. They could use the TPE to gain an asset/s this season and move Al, or they could keep Al and maybe the greater value of the TPE will be putting ourselves in a position to facilitate a 3 team trade in the offseason.
I'm really not quite sure what KOC has up his sleeve at this point.
