What's new

Any of you gonna make a game thread? Preseason game 1

Just bear in mind how competitive the Jazz were in the first pre-season game last year and how they went undefeated in 2010.

I didn't watch the game FWIW.

Hell yes!

so many good things

Gobert is clearly better, Haywards shot was on, Favors looked great in D, Exums speed, Haywards confidence, Kanters clear interest in D, the unrelenting hustle and ball movement, burks changing speeds...

Still things to work on, the PGs shooting, FTs..

But holy hell!!!!!!!

It seems like the whole team is willing to put forth their best effort. It seemed like they were focused and energetic. What a refreshingly entertaining game!

Murry > Bost

Murphy > Jones

Definitely, but when Hood comes back he'll take up the minutes Jones played tonight. Unless Hood is so lost on both ends, I'd imagine he's already ahead of Jones (and Murphy for that matter).

I like Murry's versatility a lot and even though it will be bad if he's logging big minutes (meaning Burke, Burks, Exum, Hayward can't go) he's still a quality 10th/11th guy to throw in at either guard spot.

I think one of the advantages was the speed of the game - the Jazz milked that for all its worth, and I noted several times in the game - particularly the last half of the second quarter and the first half of the fourth where the Blazers were looking gassed. Like Exum-in-summer-league gassed. Their low shooting percent was likely a combination of the increased defensive intensity/crisp rotations AND the speed that the ball was moving around the court.

Good coaches design a strategy that fits their players' strengths, and Snyder clearly has chosen to go with "play with pace" for a reason.

Another thing I saw that I didn't under Corbin is Kanters desire to play D.

You can tell that the players are being graded on passing the ball ahead when moving up the court. I like it because it makes the other team run more, testing their stamina. You need to do things like that with a younger team. . .
