Corbin didnt become an assistant til '04 and Johnson had no interest in head coaching.

And that's why I posted exactly what I did. Johnson had been a head coach, even won COY. He likely had opportunities to be a head coach, but was content being Sloan's assistant. In fact, he left Layden's staff to become the Kings' HC. Never know at what point he gave up his head coaching ambition. Perhaps after the Kings fired him for the 2nd time, after which he returned to the Jazz under Sloan?

And as you said, Ty became an assistant in 2004.. Had Sloan retired sooner, would the Millers have felt Ty had enough experience to be a head coach? I can't find the info on top assistant coaches - maybe I'm misremembering. But Ty was selected in 2009 to be one of five assistants at a USA basketball mini-camp. So he was pretty highly regarded.

I think the real argument, and this isnt going to be popular, the Jazz should have probably moved on from Sloan quicker.

The thing about AK is that he had a series of injuries that caused a decline in his athleticism. Like DWill, he became a shadow of himself in his later years. It also seemed that bulking up didn't really help his game. He was at his best when he moved like lightning on the court. He did play well in Minnesota though until his injuries got the best of him.

The thing is the Jazz retired Mark Eaton and Jeff Hornacek, so the bar isnt super high on getting your jersey retired.

AK tops in all total stats for Utah. The more I think about it, he probably should get his jersey retired if Eaton/Hornacek did.
