What's new

Anyone care to do an analysis of

Also, we will not have a bottom 5 bad record next year unless we start Roger Braile.

Is it too late to have him come back and actually earn (or what have you) the money we paid him last year?

Does anyone else find it weird that PKM has trouble staying below 100posts/day after announcing soft retirement around draft time? My guess is he planned to spend more time with his family, but eventually found out that family rather wanted him to spend his free time on JazzFanz...

I think I'll use this section to write 1 team preview/day or 2 and let you discuss how they stack up vs the Jazz!
Tomorrow I'll start with a team that's basically finished with FA.
Thanks for your concern. I simply caught roped back into all this by the genius of DOLKOC.

Burks and Burke are obviously unknowns at this point. But you know the Jazz will be paying out the wazoo for Kanter, Favors and Hayward. Those three alone will get Utah to about 45% of the luxury tax threshold. Add in the 2014 pick(s), and Burke and Burks (or their replacements) and there won't be a ton of cap space left.

Jazz have two options, IMHO, to consider for 2014-15:
1. Spend about half of their expiring contract on new contracts for Favors and Hayward and their 2014 picks. Use the other half to accumulate picks by taking on 1-2 year deals, just as they did this summer.
2. Re-sign Favors, Hayward and add their 2014 picks. Hold in reserve enough financial space under the tax threshold to allow for new contracts for Kanter and Burks. Use the remainder to pursue one or two good FA's on short-term deals (2-3 years), which would expire before Burke, Gobert and then the 2014 picks come off their rookie deals.

I think DL was a genius in getting another 2017 pick. That could be the time the Jazz face letting one of their current big-3 go (Hayward, Favors or Kanter) in order to create enough salary space to sign the superstar or all-star they're going to get from the 2014 draft.

I've almost finished my first offseason preview item. I'd just like to know one thing. Can I edit a post infinitely? Because I'd like to make my opening post as a kind of overview linking to all the future content posts. Can I edit thread titles too? To make updates obvious?

Yes, posts can be edited indefinitely. Makes predictions a helluva lot more accurate one year later when some (not naming names) go back and change what they wrote. I believe only mods can change the thread title. Maybe just add a sentence in BOLD print the edit date and reason when you update any info in your OP.
