What's new

Anyone know why Burks was a DNP?

I was talking about the Lakers game. He managed to make tons of mistakes on the defensive end with missed assignments. Inexcusable and you can't really have a guy out there if he doesn't know when and where to rotate, it only hurts the development on the team. On offense he attempted to take Kobe one on one and put up a shot that nailed the left side of the backboard, didn't even hit the rim. It's a small sample size, but he made numerous mistakes and proved he isn't ready for playing time at this point in his career. He needs to go through a couple of more practices.
You speak as if the rest of the team was doing much better.

And you speak as if a player in his very first game should be doing better.

You fail to justify (probably because it's unjustifiable) why Burks didn't get more burn in garbage time--both in the Laker game and last night. During those abortions of a game, no veteran wing deserved minutes over Burks. Fail on Corbin for not applying that fundamental coaching principle--and something that he hasn't learned yet. When your other guards go 1 for 9 (Hayward), 0 for 3 (Bell), 2 for 7 (Miles), a so-so 6 for 16 (Howard), 2 for 8 (Harris), and 2 for 9 (Watson), there is basis for pulling any one of them earlier than the last two minutes of the game, especially when Burks went 6 for 9 in a game after the Laker game that you weakly claimed to be referring to.

Why you are being an apologist for the head coach tolerating and enabling such miserable shooting (not to mention defense; see Hayward in the NBA highlights at 0:18 in the link below), especially when Burks has now proven to make baskets at a significantly higher rate (albeit in garbage time) than any other guard or wing on the team is beyond me (but is representative of your avatar).

Link to Hayward, CJ/Watson, Jefferson, etc. all vastly failing on defense in the highlights alone. Kanter had a couple of rookie defensive fails, too; hopefully Corbin has enough sense to practice them with him (or have the assistant coaches to so). Repetition, repetition, repetition.

Burks has a PER of 42, is scoring at 50 ppg/48 min., and 5.6 steals/48 min.. He is averaging 6.3 ppg at 6 minutes/game (more than Bell, Watson, and Kanter). This guy can score the ball and gets in the passing lanes. The argument that he shouldn't play because he doesn't have the defense down is absurd since the rest of the team got schooled all game long. It will not get worse with Burks playing 20 minutes/game. He will flop sometimes, but we gain nothing with Bell, CJ, and Earl for that matter taking his minutes.

Well, the official line is probably something like "He has to earn minutes" , and people on the Jazz payroll would probably say something about "protecting his confidence".

But the real reason the Jazz aren't playing him is payroll. Haven't you heard of the new Rose Rule? If A player under a rookie contract makes an all-nba team or is the league MVP then the player gets a huge raise. Jazz are just trying to save some money.

I just wish Ty would figure out that Bell doesn't deserve minutes either and KOC would trade him for some fry sauce. Most of us had figured out this last year.

What's fry sauce?

And what's a skillet?

Burks must be making a lot of mistakes in practice. That is the only conceivable reason he isn't seeing floor time. Maybe Raja is tearing it up in practice and we just don't see it. There has to be a reason for this madness!!!

I agree here.
Any rookie that would try to take on Kobe in their first game in the NBA obviously needs a maturity adjustment.
He did have a lot of points in garbage time in that 15 minutes, but nobody was guarding him either.
The scouting report was doubtful to even have him listed on it.

Let's hope Raja has been tearing it up in practice.
I'm not like most on this forum, and just hate Bell and Jefferson.
I really wish both of them would play better, and that the team would just start playing better together as a whole without a trade.
