In the two years I've been fishing 98% warm water species, I think I've figured out Smallies, no F'ing clue on Walleye, no F'ing clue about Wipers (although I got one on a fly this year), figured out Pike, (again, on the fly - boo ya) and have slightly more than an F'ing clue about Largemouth Bass.

I didn't make it to Powell today because of a work issue, so I spent most of the day at Sand Hollow. I fished hard from 1-6 and didn't even have a sniff. So frustrating, yet so damn fun.

Depends.... some streams have so much vegetation on the shoreline and the streams so narrow thay fly fishing becomes cumbersome due to not having ample space to fish.

Lots of fly fisherman like fishing lakes on float tubes or pontoons


But yes fly fishing and rivers/streams normally go hand in hand

Maybe even as little as five years ago, that trend has taken a massive turn to warm water species. Just take carp alone, and I bet you 2 out of 5 fly fisherman have gone after carp, and within 5 years, carp fishing with flies will be a guided trip. Unless you've done it, you just can't understand the power and speed those fish have, or the sheer effort it is to catch them.

One of the best things you can do while fully clothed, imo.

There are a few people who can fish walleye outside the spawn (I'm not one of them; can't catch even one of those ******** in their egg beds). A guy in my father's ward fishes Deer Creek nearly every day in the summer and claims to slay them by trolling about 1/3rd mph and running bottom bouncers. There's a guy on BFT with the exact same story.

It's too bad carp carry a bigger stigma than an American made car. I once though hosting an annual UL carp kill would be a great tournament but people just don't want to fish for something they don't want to eat.
