Apple Snyder Press Conference

Go ahead and hate me and call me names or whatever, but I think Messina would do more good for our players as an assistant than the HC.

Less other crap to worry about, and more teaching and time to figure them out and what makes them tick so he can teach them the way they learn individually.

/my opinion

I don't necessarily disagree, I'd just hope to have him onboard for an extended period of time. They have to get him first. I think that hiring Etorre Messina is absolutely critical for this team at this juncture.

I think Blatt interviewing for an assistant position under Kerr helps. Both he and Messina probably thought they'd be able to enter the league as HC's. That just isn't going to happen. So if Messina wants to make a mark in the NBA, he's going to need to stick it out as an assistant for a couple of seasons, not just the 1 he had in LA.

I think that the Spurs have proven that the European style of team basketball can still work at the NBA level. It's about time that European coaches who subscribe to that theory start getting imported. Especially in smaller markets where it's harder to get star players. You still have to have stars to contend, but having a great all-around team is a good philosophy to have too.

Great. Hasn't even been 24 hours and he's already got his pet vets.

Nice. Really, really nice.

Well, that and three all-stars without overgrown egos.

Admittedly I didnt catch the entire interview and while I thought he did okay, I am left longing for Messina. I much prefer his philosophy of team defense starting with players working together effectively on offense.

Also Snyder's response to what he gained most from his diverse coaching experiences was a dud. That he can adjust to various situations wasn't a very well thought out answer to what at least on paper, is one of his great strengths. Messina reflects in his YouTube video how he has integrated his players from different cultures and backgrounds into a team.

I still like the hire, just a little less now.

Seems a little harsh.
