Appropriate Stuff

Please.

I got the response. Let's see if my summary is accurate?

The thread in question got a lot of reports. It was a PITA to deal with all the reports. Some of the content was borderline. The mods have not indicated what causes one submission to be borderline, one to be acceptable and one to be inappropriate. What they do is close the thread.

There was a secret vote amongst an undisclosed number of mods that was unanimous. End of story. No further details need be discussed.

When people are unhappy the mods insult them and make threats.

Did I miss anything?

Yes--when people are unhappy they insult the mods and make threats.

Now I think it's all covered.

Moe made it clear everyone that no level of dissent will be allowed. Please stop expressing your disagreement. They will close threads and fract for disagreement. After insulting and demeaning people.

And as far as I know no one has been infracted for expressing their dissent.

Please get your facts right.

And be more polite.

After all what good are rules if they apply to everyone?

Ironic that you turn to the rules now. It was people not following the rules that led to your outrage in the first place.

The rules clearly state:

Appropriate Content: Members should remember this board is aimed at a general audience. Posting pornographic or generally offensive text, images, links, etc. will not be tolerated. Excessive or graphic sexual innuendo will not be tolerated. Profanity is typically automatically filtered out; circumventing the automatic filter via e.g. creative misspelling will not be tolerated.

A lot of the posts in the "Is this Inappropriate?" thread clearly crossed the line. The thread itself is an open invitation to post images that could cross the line, hence it was decided that it should be closed.

I think that's as clearly as I could have put it.

This is probably why someone told you to just not post in a frustrated/snarky manner. You are being dense, and it appears to be on purpose. FYI

It's the same thing over and over with what appears to be no real attempts to understand, but to argue.

So tempted to put this on your avatar.

When I get fracted, I'm usually mad at first. Then later I feel like maybe it was my fault. I should have known NAOS would call me out, only to quickly report me. I knew he'd do that. That's my bad for letting him bait me.

I think this whole thing is a mix a both. People should know better about what's crossing the line and what isnt. But mods are all snarky and really annoying, and not fair. They'll bait you into an argument then fract you. I've seen it a dozen times.

it was a two-year old thread. Why do you think the moderating community felt now was the time? How did it become a legislative item for y'all?

I can't help but wonder what the response would have been from these posters who are up in arms if we had issued multiple infractions instead of closing the thread, as they are suggesting we should have done.

you're too dumb to do this. Sorry, but that's true.

Exactly what counts as "excessive" or "graphic" or "sexual" or "profane" is not 'clear' to everybody. You don't know the first thing about what a rule is. Apparently spazz doesn't either.

I'll ask you next:

Why was that thread suddenly an action-item for the moderators?

As I said in response to Howard in the other thread (https://jazzfanz.com/showthread.php?43841-Pretty-disappointed-in-Jazzfanz-at-the-moment-Jason)

If you truly thought it was that awful, why wait til now to close it Colt? It's two freaking years old.

Because it seems to have gotten progressively worse and worse over time. Judging from their comments in the thread where this was discussed in the mod forum most of the mods had stopped reading it because it crossed their personal line even if it hadn't crossed the site's line until more recently. (This is true for me personally, and at least two or three other mods said the same.) So when the thread was reported to me and I passed the report along to the mods, everyone took a fresh look at it and decided it had gone too far.

Ok. You can't/wont answer my questions, and I'm the dense one. Btw, nobody told me not to be snarky, not sure where you got that from.

We still haven't gotten one good answer on how a 2 year old thread full of the same stuff as always broke the rules now, but not two years ago. Seems very inconsistent to me. Shocking that could happen with such thorough and obvious rules.

There have been answers on this subject because I have posted them. You may not like the answer but it has been done.

that only partially answers the question. You have to admit that closing a two-year old thread right after a change in moderation is fishy. Who had a problem with it? Why can't you just get transparent and tell us about the process? Walk us through this.

I can see how it looks fishy. Timing.

I have explained the process.
