Are Our Young Players Really That Talented?

This is from today's Salt Lake Tribune column on early entry players. The quote if from Trey Burke's father.
"The way I looked at it, there’s a certain number of guards that go in the first round," his father and agent, Benji Burke, said. "He wasn’t one of the three or four. He wasn’t going to jump over Damian [Lillard] or Kendall [Marshall]. He wasn’t going to jump over Marcus Teague, who just won a national championship. I told him, ‘Trey, come back. Get free advertising from Michigan. Win a Big Ten title. If you do what you’re supposed to do, you’re going to be one of the guys nobody can jump over.’"
So Trey wasn't as talented as Kendall Marshall who got waived by the Suns and was passed over by the Jazz when they signed Garrett. Perhaps our young guys might not be starters but bench players in actuality.

Sounds like his dad is a smart dude who knows his ****. Draft is about perception and being a short PG who isn't supremely athletic won't make you jump up draft boards. Winning will though and he needed another year to do it.

oH for ****s sakes.. you got all that from what Trey's dad said?

Kendall Marshall has the most PG friendly coach of all time, and he has come back down to Earth. Burke is way better.

Maybe he is all around the better player, but I think that we need a PG like Kendall Marshall on this team. He is just much more talented at getting other players involved and is also a superior defender. Burke is way way better at scoring and always will be, but I think that he is not the right answer for Utah.

I do not know about Marshalls work-ethic and he will never be the shooter Nash was, but his talent at creating offense for his teammates could be at his Level.

to be a pass first guard. doenst he need the ball.

yet hayfense does not give him the ball

in hayfense he needs to be a chucker.

you might be right he might be a chucking guard, but we dont know WTF kinda guar dhe is. cus if it wasnt for hayfense. we should have had the answer to these questions

Yes, I agree that he would be better at making plays in a true offensive system. Maybe he is forced to play the 6´1 shooting guard, because of Corbins Hayfense. But I just do not see the "pass first" mentality in Trey. Marshall looks like Steve Nash, without the shooting.

It´s not just because of the system... I watched plenty of Lakers-games this season and this kid really has talent at creating for his teammates.

AS for our young guys, I think Burks could be an all-star at some point; Hayward too. But they're also up against players from bigger markets. Starting lineup is all about popularity with fans; Utah players will rarely win that battle so they'll have to be subs to make the all-star team.
You think Burks and Gordo have the talent to be voted All-Star game starters in a bigger market? Really?

Burks is the only player on the team that could possibly make an all-star appearance in his career, but not voted in as a starter. Everyone else on the Jazz, I doubt will ever make an all-star team.

I think all the young guys are very solid, but none of them screams superstar to me, or even all-star. But with a better coach and a better system I wouldn't be shocked to see a Burks or Favors be in the argument for an all-star game. And with a franchise chaning piece I think the young guys can all be great compliments to a championship contender, but that's a very optimistic prediction.
