What's new

Are you buying a Nintendo Wii U?

The problem I have is that they are starting to come out to fast. There are 3 main companies now and as soon as the newest middle ships they start work on the next model. To much money to fast. You figure $300-500 for the original consol. $40 for extra controlers, then $60 a pop for a new game. I dropped 1,000 on my PS3 andably $800 on the Wii.

The previous generations (PS2 notwithstanding) all were on 5 year cycles. Wii U is coming out six years after the Wii was released. Xbox 360 will be Microsoft's newest console for a minimum eight years, and the PS3 is the most recent Sony console for a minimum seven years.

Wii U preorders are selling out.

Though with a big caveat:

While the demand might seem to signal that the Wii U is poised to become a cultural touchstone, like the Wii was, analysts note it is likely more indicative of Nintendo offering limited pre-order supplies to stores – in part to help generate buzz for a system that, to date, really hasn't managed to get people talking.

"Nintendo tends to manage the distribution channel to generate some sort of perception that its [system] is in demand," says Colin Sebastian of R.W. Baird. "I think seeing these sellouts on some of the websites is not a negative indication. It's either neutral or slightly positive, but it's not conclusive."

Because no one really knows how many of a retailer's allocated stock are put up for pre-order, he adds, it's not always the best litmus test of future success. Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter estimates there are only between 300,000 and 400,000 Wii U consoles currently being offered for pre-order. (The system, of course, will also be available physically in stores on Nov. 18.)

Give me a good Zelda game and a new F-Zero and maybe I'll buy one at some point.

Agreed.
I've always been a huge Nintendo homer, but I'll have to see some real innovative Mario, Zelda, and Metroid to get me into gaming again.

That is.... other than NBA games, which is all I really play anymore.

Exactly. I will probably be purchasing the PS4 AKA the Playstation Orbis. Rumor had it coming out around Christmas of 2013, but that doesn't look as likely now. Probably sometime in 2014. I will probably wait a year or so prior to buying it though. I have been foolish in the past and spent money on the launch of said systems which had issues as we all know. Anyway, we'll see what happens.
