What's new

At what price will the Jazz not match Hayward's contract?

Dunleavy, Hinrich, Butler....really? They are walking corpses now. Have you invented a time machine allowing players to return their prime?
Haha, nice smart *** response before reading & understanding the context of this post...The argument was that there are players with the same talent/skillsets of a Gordon Hayward available in practically every draft. Of course players drafted in 2002 are in the downswing of their careers...Give yourself a pat on the back.

You said replaceable. There might be players like him in the draft, but you don't know if they will turn out or bust. Teams only have a few picks, so no I don't think you could easily replace hayward through the draft.

Exactly, those guys that are available in the draft each year are usually gems surrounded by landmine busts. From Hayward's 2010 draft alone, Johnson(3), Aminu (6), Henry(12), Babbitt(16) are some of those landmines

Okay fine. Of the players I listed, 11 of them were drafted beyond where the Jazz drafted so it's not like drafting another Hayward-type player is unachievable/unreachable for the Jazz. Hayward is a nice player that can do a several things well but is not elite at anything. Those type of players aren't as rare as you believe. If we draft well like the Pacers or Spurs, it's not very difficult to get another player like Hayward.

If the Jazz plan on a playoff push next year, then you pay whatever to keep Hayward. If the Jazz are planning on "going with the young guys" aka losing more than winning again, then let him walk. He won't help that cause.

He has an inflated sense of his value, but I think part of that has been the Jazz treating him like he is that valuable. So I was surprised and oh so glad they didn't give GH what he was wanting. That woulda been Kirilenko-esque. Ugh. GH drives me crazy. At least he helps the tank. Yeah, I don't like him.

No one knows what the Jazz offered. If it was the rumored 4/40, GH made the right call. Odds are he will at least get that from someone.

Marc Stein said the Jazz went up to 4/50 but did not want to go higher. No one that knows is talking but that makes sense to me. It also suggests to me that unless he disappoints them this year they will likely pull the trigger on that same amount without a lot of thought. Not sure I think that is a good thing but sounds like the Jazz FO have put a value on him.

Draft Jabari.

Then it really won't matter whether Hayward stays or goes.
