Awards show on TNT Monday June 25 9pm ET Discussion

The NBA schedule is absolutely stupid sometimes. In my opinion, it should go...

NBA Finals
The Monday following the Finals - this awards show
The Friday of the awards show week, all player decision deadlines due (team and player options)
The Monday following the awards show, the Moratorium for a week
Following the Moratorium, free agency begins on a Monday
That Thursday, hold the draft

I think it's kind of stupid that teams have to select their draft picks before they know if their current players are staying or going. Also, it would be nice to have a couple days of free agency before the draft. If draft pick spots had cap holds, teams might be more willing to trade picks if it means they can sign free agents earlier in the week. So teams who spend away in free agency might have to forgo draft picks. Could lead to more insanity.

And for the love of all that is holy, NBA - please fix the stupid draft picks wearing the hat of the team they definitely aren't going to. If a trade is confirmed, let the rookie wear the hat of the team he is actually drafted by.

Just my more than two cents....
The award show should definitely happen before the playoffs since those aren't taken into account for the awards. It's dumb to have the awards come out after any playoff games have happened since those change everyone's opinions.

Or change the awards to take into account the playoffs or add playoff awards behind finals mvp.

Anyone who quotes FG% when comparing two players like Simmons vs Mitchell completely loses my respect. It's already the most worthless stat in basketball, and is made even more worthless when comparing player A who didn't take a single 3 pt shot with player B who broke the rookie records for number of 3 pointers taken and number of 3 pointers made.

I agree completely. Either (a) move to before playoffs, (b) include playoff performances in voting, or (c) move to before plays and also have separate playoff awards.

DM has an amazing season, won 4 rookie of the month awards, won the ROY award from the players, and won the dunk contest. The kid had an amazing season. I’d love for him to win it, it’s not going to happen, and despite any knock anyone wants to make on him, Simmons is a great player who also had a great season especially statistically.

Whether Donovan wins this or not, it was great for his brand. Wtf cared about ROY until this season? Donovan won either way. The dude has got as much press as any player in the league, and win or lose he’s going to get plenty tonight.

Another thing he’s done in the last month is put himself in front of and among the media that votes for these awards. He will benefit from that going forward. And to whoever asked above, yes Steven A. and Max got to vote.

Also, he may as well add to his list of awards, and take this away from Simmons. Click on the link and vote for Donovan for the ESPY award

My predictions:

MVP: Harden (obviously)
DPOY: Gobert
ROY: Simmons (sadly)
COY: Casey
MIP: Oladipo

I agree with this but I wouldn’t be surprised to see Mitchell and Simmons win Co-ROY. Also, wouldn’t be surprised to see Stevens win COY.

How awkward is it that Casey could win COY and he got fired.

......now I wonder if Simmons wins, if during his acceptance speech he’ll troll/take a shot at Donovan?

I wish they’d do co-ROY, I don’t think it’s likwly at all. I think Quin has a shot at COY. The media out east may have diluted votes between Casey/Stevens enough hopefully Quin can win.

I think the draft needs to stay before free agency. But I get it...sometimes it would be helpful to know which free agents you are keeping or getting so you can draft accordingly. But the reverse is also true. With Allen being drafted, Utah likely looks for a 4 or combo forward in free agency, not a SG.

As for the awards, Stevens eserves COY. Boston had a ton of injuries in the regular season, and Kyrie went down for the playoffs. Still they made it to the EC Finals. My second choice would be Casey. Best record in East. The knock is that he gets outcoached in the playoffs. But this is a regular season award. It's tough because Quin also did a helluva job.

No doubt Gobert deserves DPOY.

As for rookie, I have to give the nod to Simmons. He averaged nearly a triple double. He knows his limitations and wont chuck from 3pt range. Donovan was just too inefficient. He's exciting for sure and is becoming a mega star, but in all honesty, even though I hope he wins, I just think Simmons had a slightly better season, by the narrowest of margins. TBH, I'm hoping for a tie.

I agree with all of this except for the ROY
