Baton Rouge Police Killing a 37-year-old black man at point blank range

I didn't miss the point at all. I totally understand that blacks get ****ed with by the cops at a higher rate than whites. This seems obvious.
I was just surprised at how many whites get shot and killed by police since I never hear about those deaths.

Because generally speaking the police aren't shooting 12 yr old white boys with toy guns, choking 50 year old white men to death, pinning white dudes down and unloading 5 shots at point blank range. The level of aggression is much higher toward blacks than it is to whites. Anyone that refuses to see that there is a substantial racial component to these shootings is actively filtering out truth. Police are too trigger happy all around imo but clearly the problem of how the police interact with blacks is a problem of a different scale.

So almost 25% of people shot by cops are black despite blacks only being 13% of thee population. Whites account for 77% of the population, non-hispanic whites 66%. Whichever way you look at it the 46% of police shootings that happen to whites is far less than their share of the population.

So far this year. 509 deaths of civilians as a result of the police killing them. 238 were white, 123 were black.

Those white people still died. How are deaths any different than the deaths of the black people? Did the cops do it in a nicer way to the white people? Was it not just as horific as the how the black people died? I fail to see your point with his post.

Police don't go around looking for boys with toy guns. Black or white. Maybe boys shouldn't be using toy guns while committing crimes or deliberately using them to project some kind of defiance. . . .

So whites have a little more good sense??? Is that your beef? Do you have any statistics on how the use of toy guns varies with race? If you don't, you are lacking a relevant factor in the stats, if toy guns are the reason kids get shot by cops.

It's funny that you are all of the sudden anti toy gun when a black 12 year old boy is shot by police in a park but you can rant about a ******* conspiracy theory when a middle aged white man with a real gun is shot by police after taking over a building by pointing guns at unarmed government employees. Your post that I responded to was about HOW the police were killing black people. Remember, choking, kids with guns, etc..?
I was pointing out that it didnt make any sense. Death is death. Im sure all the white people died just as bad as all the black people.

On the topic of the percentage compared to population, its not enough of a disparity to be crying foul. Maybe black people are just a little more likely resist arrest? Maybe it has something to do with gangster culture? How many rap song are out there talking crap about cops and killing them? You dont think that influences how black people think if they listen to that music? You dont think that those words might just represent the mentality of black people? Are you going to try and tell me that not that many black people listen to rap? Just saying, its right out there in the open. Its not like its some big secret. I know that it doesnt effect all black people, obviously, or else the numbers would be even higher. But the attitude and culture obviously has an effect on how they deal with cops. There are so many sides, as there is on so many of society's ills. My guess is that all sides have some elements of truth and a lot of misunderstanding. It would be great if everyone could expect that they would always be treated fairly and kindly.

It turns out I can't really do anything to change any of it, except for my own behavior. I've spent a lot of time this week examining my own biases and thought processes and have found a few areas that need improvement. Be the change you want to see, and all that.

Again, when was the last police brutality incident in a Chinatown? How and why are asians behaving differently that they don't have to do this "everybody hates black people" demonstrations?
Now you probably say something like "but black people had less possibilities to get good education than asians"... as far as i know it is not against law to go to the public library, grab some educational books and study together instead roaming in the streets, crying about the miserable life and waiting for somebody to beat him up. Also, if you say that they must behave like they behave because they are poor - well, there are a lot of poorer countries which are much safer than some black ghettos. If Paharganj in New Delhi is safe (it means that the really poor (compared to US) locals are not violent), then who and/what motivates people in so called bad neighborhoods in Detroit to behave badly?

Have you seen the mini series "Roots" that's showing at the moment? If you watch that I think you would start to understand a little bit about black people and their history of abuse in the US...


Not saying it would explain everything but after watching it you can start to sympathise with one minority race that was disadvantaged from 200+ years ago and some of them still feel like they are being mistreated today....
