Best Buy Recap

I worked for Best Buy on 21st south back in 2004 - 2006. I saw a bunch of jazz players come in. Hornacek signed some stuff for me.

I remember saying stuff regularly about jazz players I saw at best buy. And then there was some sass about it. I didnt follow all of the posts but thought it was pretty silly that whatever was said about best buy became a joke.

And then the best buy legend kept going.

I am sure amongst the best buy posts I made there was additional fuel to the fire. But honestly I dont think i read the posts that made best buy legendary.

I think it was the collective more than a singular post. People just not believing one thing or another and multiple best buy jazz sitings and conjecture.

I can’t vouch for the 2005 story since from February 2004 to February 2006 I was on my JFC sabbatical for my LDS mission, though still lurked occasionally. Really wish the board hadn’t crashed so I could go see if I ever posted over that span. Anyway, I remembered a second story in spring/summer of 2006 where someone else had seen Memo buying a TV at Best Buy. If I’m recalling, I think it was an amalgam of 2-3 legitimate (or at least purported to be legitimate and not meme stories) that all had a Best Buy connection that then turned it into the running meme.

There have been some good JazzFanzisms over the years but none has stood the test of time like Best Buy. Some notables:

“What’s a skillet?”
Pillow fort.
19-13.
Buckner

My memory is it was someone posting inside information they learned at Best Buy from a Jazz player and it was during the Booz and Deron era. Then I remember jokes about knowing something was going to happen because they were at Best Buy and go inside info.

Seriously? I'm the oldest person here? Back in the day we used to have posters that feigned connections ro the team. One of these guys would spin stories with lots of made up detail (even if he had connections the details were obviously made up.) He told a big long story about how he saw Carlos Boozer in the Best Buy parking lot and Boozer confided in him that he was not going to play another game for the Jazz.

Now, taking aside the fact that Carlos would confide to a rando his career plans, people on the board, especially the doomers, had a field day. Another group laughed at the premise altogether. Overall it was clear, nobody would ever come to play in Utah again.

I believe that Boozer DID play that season, but it was shortly before he got hurt and fell off hard (not right away, but eventually.) Because of this post, Jazzfanz was convinced that Boozer was sandbagging and dogged him.

Jazzfanz got their wish and Boozer was moved to Chicago and the era that the Board was jonesing for "The Core Four Era" had begun. We didn't call it that at the time because we didnt have those 4 guys, but we were optimistic that we were going to tear down, move all the vets, get high draft picks and rebuild the Championship Way!

This time is totally different though. Trust.

Larry's daughter-in-law was with Greg and some Bulls management and told them they were going to like the Boozer trade for about a year... she was right.
