Honestly? I think the Byrde family ARE the antagonists. Or, at least, the bad guys.This is how I felt. Bateman was great in it. He had 3-4 monologues that were Spacey-esque. Part of it is what you said. We’ve seen this before. Part of it is also that they’re not very likable. They’re not unlikable but there’s no emotional attachment to them and it’s not as if they reek of redeemable qualities. I think another big issue like many good vs. evil tales that fail is the antagonist. Isn’t that why people loved The Dark Knight? Why we love The Silence of the Lambs? Sorry but the backass hick older couple just don’t do it for me.
