What's new

Beverley to Lakers for THT and Stanley Johnson

The Jazz could have just signed THT outright if he was good this year, also.

I’m gonna try to be done now.
NAW was a salary dump to save 12M last year

Pat Bev is a down payment

That is the way I have to view these deals to make them make sense.

Also, it’s a bad sign when a young player gets a lot worse after getting their first significant NBA contract.

Now I’m done.

and a 26 year old. But I think they are mad cause beverly was going to bring us a title or a boatload of unprotected first round picks but now he cant
No people are mad because THT will more than likely leave next year. We are getting nothing out of the deal.

Do you guys really think if he flourishes he's staying in Utah lol? Have you not paid attention?

Ummmm sir… we could be on the other side of some favs situations… but not if we waste that space on **** like THT.
Haven't you been banging the drum on how it wouldn't hurt the Jazz to acquire and extend Barrett? I'm sure he's wanting (and eligible for) more than $30 million/per.

Yeah RJ is a better player, but somehow he remains a lower efficiency player (by career TS%) than THT. THT definitely the better passer, though worse rebounder. I think it's worth the gamble the Jazz took. It's a swing at someone who clearly has some tools.

The down payment concept is something I wasn’t gonna say out loud but my brain said could be a thing. So I’m gonna hope that.

Still wild to me they couldn’t get a 2nd for doing them a massive favor.

Fans on the Lakers side are saying the reason that Stanley Johnson was included was because THT's salary was just short of what was required to trade Beverley and THT straight up. Wonder if a 2nd rounder might have been on the table otherwise.

So best case scenario is that THT turns in to something and decides to stay in Utah. I personally think the probability of those two things happening are low.

We gave up Bev who has to be worth at least 1 second rounder and took on the risk of 11M of bad salary next year, which potentially could have been used to acquire a protected first.

Yes Stanley on a one year deal cost is a second.
