Big Al Working Hard

^^^lol! top 10 center BIG AL is a top 5 center right now

In no particular order:

Howard
Noah
Gasol
Gasol
Bynum
Bogut
Chandler
Okafor
Horford
Cousins

Granted some of these are more suited at PF (Horford/P.Gasol, etc), as is probably Al himself, but I would rather have any of these guys be my starting C over Al. We aren't getting rid of Al so I am willing to give him another year before I'm officially on the "Trade-Al-Bandwagon".

I with you on most of these players but Cousins? Okafor? I would put Al above Cousins and just about equal with Okafor. But Okafor can't shoot though he is a better defender and rebounder.

I think Cousins could be not just a top 10 C in the league, but a truly dominant big man. Granted last season he showed signs of that, while also showing he's definitely got some things to work on (his FG% was pretty bad for a big). I debated on Cousins given his past and deficiencies but if I had to choose I would probably still take Cousins and that might just be me coveting something that I don't have while taking for granted what I do have.

If it weren't for Okafor's last season I wouldn't have considered him, but I think he showed that if you put him on a competitive team with a semi-competent coach and decent players that he can be really good. But once again this could just be me thinking the grass is greener on the other side.

Aldridge? Lopez? Dirk? Stoudemire? Nene? Duncan?

exactly. Hence, why I said become a top 10 C. I know in clutch time hes rated the best center in the league, but thats for another discussion. What Im saying is if hes paired with favors in a starting role and they prove to work as quite a functional defensive tandem, together with al getting another ~20/10 season, were onto something good here. He can finish his time here, and we can either keep him if Kanter doesnt amount to much or we can shop his newly improved trade value if Kanter becomes the answer to our questions.

Grass is always greener I suppose. Al is better than most of those listed and I would rather have him easily over most of them. I SAID MOST, not all obviously. Howard, Gasol, Cousins IF he pulls his head out of his ***. The others I'd take Al over. Some I cant believe you listed at all. Not even in the same class as Al.

Howard
Bogut
Bynum
pau Gasol

Those four are the only ones that are better then BIG AL.
BIG AL>Horford(hes the closest imo)
BIG AL>Cousins NO
BIG AL>M.Gasol NO
BIG AL>Chandler if your had a PF that was a great scorer and needed a defense only guy
BIG AL>Noah if all your team needs is a defense and energy.

Aldridge? Lopez? Dirk? Stoudemire? Nene? Duncan?

Aldridge is not a center and BIG AL after the all-star break was 1 and 2 in the league with Aldridge in production.

BIG AL>>>>Lopez
Dirk is not a center
Nether is Amare
BIG AL>>>>Nene
Duncan not at this point in his career

The point being to stay on track in this tread is BIG AL is up their with the big men in the league weather people put him top 5, top 10 just or outside. He's getting himself in great shape and that means this guy is ready to come in and get straight to work nothin less then 20/10 can be expected along with him getting familiar with the system that TY wants to run which at this point is a mystery to all of us.

Well you can argue that Aldridge, Dirk and Amare play PF, but absolutely no excuses leaving out Lopez, Nene and Duncan.

I'd like to thank rocfan for providing my excuses for me. And no, you cannot argue that those guys play PF, because they do play PF.

The arguments about 7-footers who guard centers and are guarded by centers being "power forwards" because they are listed as such is ridiculous. If it looks like a center, plays like a center, guards centers, is garded by centers, then it most likely is a center. You can list people wherever you want, what happens in the game is what is definitive. So, since he really isn't a center, you would not be willing to trade, say, Okafor or M. Gasol to get Dirk? or Amare? Really?

But yes, I think Big Al is a better center than many on that list. He is in the top 10 easily and, unless we can get something back that is also a top 10 talent at their position, we should keep him for now. IMO the real trade asset is Sap, a tweener with less and less of a role on this team as we get stacked at the big positions.
