Big News Out of BYU??

I wonder if BYU leaving really breaks up the MWC TV contract as has been reported. I tend to doubt it though, because I think more (or any for that matter) concessions would have been made to keep BYU. If that's the case, I can live with BYU leaving as a Fresno fan.

There has been so much change that there almost has to be a new tv deal negotiated.

I don't really see a downside to this move by BYU.

The biggest downside for BYU is that I doubt they'll ever get whiff of a BCS Bowl as an independent. Had they stayed in the MWC, there's always that possibility of going undefeated, winning the conference title and getting the at-large bid. There was also a chance of gaining AQ status had they stayed in the MWC.

I just don't see them putting a schedule together that leads to an undefeated independent season that get's them ranked high enough at the end of the year.

BYU is going to have a higher profile, be seen on ESPN, get their local TV market back and make more $$$$, but they're also going to be farther away from the BCS then they've ever been. Does that get Cougar fans excited?

Be honest BYU fans, a year ago (or even a few months ago) if some random Ute fan told you that Utah was joining the PAC 10, and BYU would try to join the WAC, fail, and end up joining the WCC, would you have considered that a good thing for BYU?

Football wise, I couldn't be happier. A 2011 of Notre Dame/Texas/Texas Tech/Oregon State/Clemson/Utah/Hawaii etc. is a better schedule than the Pac 12's.

I tend to agree with this. Had BYU stayed and the MWC invited Houston to get the league to 12 members (as rumored), there's a pretty decent chance that the MWC becomes an AQ conference. But there's no doubt they'll be seeing a lot more $$$ and exposure.

Lol, not a chance BYU gets that schedule next year.

BYU already had Oregon St and Texas scheduled. I have to imagine BYU will play Utah and Utah St. I think Hawaii is already on the schedule too. It is highly likely that the other independents (Notre Dame, Army and Navy) will want to play BYU in November when everyone else is playing their conference schedule. So that is 7 likely games. If you throw in a couple of patsies and maybe a few more of the MWC or WAC teams you have a full schedule.

That is still not the schedule he listed.

Take a look at Navy's schedule:

BYU will have something similar to that, at best, most years. And they will have worse than that often.

That is not the "better than the PAC 12" schedule duck was touting.

Check Army's schedule, it's even worse:
