BMore Riots?

Outrage rarely takes forms that everyone approves of. Just because you don't agree with it or understand it doesn't make their grievances any less valid.

A revolution must take place to change the current state of affairs and very rarely, if ever, has revolution taken place without violence.

why are they attacking businesses. if they wanna burn down a city. why not go to city hall, or the court building or the polcie station and BURN THAT DOWN. Heck burn down the majors house!

burning random small owned businesses isnt a revolutionn, this is STUPIDITY.

There wasn't a black persons convention where they decided in their strategic think tank that rioting was the way to go. This didn't go to a vote. There was no agreement to riot.

exactly if they should protest they should plan it. dress the part. distinguish themselves from looters and riots. and go about this in a constructive manner.

a BPC(not baltimore police, but a black person convention would do a lot more)

One thing is for sure, another round of tax cuts for the rich, cuts to food stamps for the poor, and a war in the Middle East will do Baltimore wonders, right?

Oh and let's not forget the widely successful war on drugs.

It keeps us from having to talk about solutions. You know, like Stoked said.

Let's talk solutions then. Here are mine:

#1 let's drastically increase the min wage over the next 10 years. We can adopt a system like Australia's. Working families shouldn't be dependent upon food stamps to prevent starvation.

#2 Mass domestic spending (imagine if we had invested $2 trillion into us instead of Iraq!). We need to repair our bridges and roads, improve our energy grid, and develop light rail. Scoop up the unemployed and underemployed of this nation and put them to good work with well paying jobs. You could offer other incentives too: work for 2 years and you get free college tuition.

Speaking of college. Some states are moving in the opposite direction. Many districts in Kansas are closing early resulting from tax cuts that have left such large revenue shortfalls that they no longer have enough money to remain open. Wisconsin and Louisiana are facing similar issues even to higher education institutions. Isn't that sad? See we need to do the opposite of this. More school and more investment!

#3 Solar Baby Solar! Not Drill Baby Drill. There's no excuse for China outspending us in green tech. No reason why we must buy solar panels from them. Completely sad that Germany gets far more of its energy from solar than we do. The future is green. Baltimore used to be one of our major steel producers. Why not use those abandoned factories to build green tech? Train and employ the downtrodden in that town to build solar panels. The United States should be the primary developer of solar panel technology, not China.

#4 change the way we treat CEOs and companies in this nation. The focus should be on long term growth not on short term gluttony. Many Western Europe countries have done this tying CEO pay to worker pay. Allowing workers to be on their board of directors and have a say. Germany alone has adjusted bankruptcy to pay out workers first. Here in America? It's the opposite. The CEOs and shareholders get the golden parachutes while workers get the crumbs.

#5 We really need to see what European countries have done to their police. Many there don't even carry guns and don't deal with near the violence we do. Why? Can police perhaps use other means? What about our gun laws? What about the war on drugs? We need to investigate to see what can be done to end this unnecessary violence

Our black communities are lashing out for a reason.

Because the ghettos are full of criminals wanting excuses.

Put yourself in their shoes for one moment. What would it take for you to burn your city down?

If I were an angry, violent criminal? Not much.

How angry would you have to be to take to the streets? I'll bet watching your friends, brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters be abused and killed over and over with no repercussions, for years and years, would do it. You're too poor to do anything about it. What if your kid was killed by police after a petty crime?

They ask us this after every one of these incidents, yet the police are found innocent 999 out of 1000 times. The problem isn't the police, it's the criminals you are defending. And define petty. The vast majority of the suicide by cop deaths have been far from petty or non-violent.

This country has a problem with law enforcement and socio-economics, and it's disproportionate effects on black communities. It's happening whether you think it is or not.

The latter is true. Point your efforts there, the root of the problem and maybe we will get some results. Going after police and ruining cities definitely will not.

That's the core problem here. These poor people know that no matter how logical or peaceful they may sound, nothing will change. So why not resort to violence?

Ghetto society is by and large not logical or peaceful.

Will the children finally receive the education money they need to get out of poverty? No.

Dumping education money onto the problem without addressing the underlying problems is treating a symptom, not the disease. And yeah, we've tried throwing money at it and that does not work, obviously.

Will businesses that left come back to provide salaries that enable these people to get off welfare and food stamps? No.

Entrepreneurs leaving their own communities is a problem. How do you propose forcing black residents of these ghettos to not 'get out'?

So why the hell not burn the bitch down?

Building a better future never works...

I totally understand their frustration and hopelessness.

Everyone understands there frustration. Acting like those who disagree with violence do not does nothing to move towards solutions.

While we've been rebuilding other countries we have completely neglected our own.

Geo-political policy has nothing to do with this, but don't pass up the opportunity to get atop your soap box.

Salaries for the middle class? Stagnant. Had just min wage kept up with inflation we would see a min wage of $18 bucks per hr.

Communist propoganda.

Our health care system is the best in the world at keeping people alive and recovering from severe disease and trauma.

Fixed.

While average Americans bitch about blacks burning down Baltimore we turn a blind eye to American capitalists exploiting cheap labor in sweat shop factories in communist countries. Nothing shows patriotism more than throwing people in Baltimore out of work while moving your operations to employ communists in China.

The alternative conditions to those 'sweat shops' in those countries are much worse. Your self righteous indignation would inflict severe poverty on a world that has finally hit the tipping point and is recovering from endless poverty that was humanity prior to US capitalism doing something about it.

Until we wake up the moral compass of our country and focus on our own nation, nothing will change. In 2 weeks Baltimore will be forgotten again and the neglect will continue. The people in Baltimore certainly are living an endless and hopeless nightmare until we wake up. Until Baltimore residents are joined with Kansas or Wisconsin residents pissed over the failure of tinkle down in their state, nothing will change.

This isn't a race issue. It's an economic issue. The focus needs to shift from enriching a few back to enriching the country.

How condescending to the people of Baltimore. What, because they're black and poor they cannot help themselves? You couldn't be more racist.

I love how simple you mind is.

Bigotry is a state of mind where a person obstinately, irrationally, unfairly or intolerantly dislikes other people, ideas, etc
Yeah, I didn't think you were using it correctly. Turns out I was right.

Is Franklin still trying to tell ppl that America has the best healthcare system in the world? Lol.

It's difficult to make the case that the US got the best healthcare in the world. But don't we have best cancer survival rates? Don't we invent the most medicines and treatments? Without spending a lot of time researching it, I bet we have best, or near best, healthcare for those with tons of money or great insurance.

Yeah you have to differentiate between health care and health care system. Our health care is second to none. Period. Our health care system is broken.

Amen, Obama care is killing it for everyone.

Please tell me how the health care system was good until Obama came along.

Yeah you have to differentiate between health care and health care system. Our health care is second to none. Period.

Depends-- but yes, if you're loaded, and you need some acute, drastic biomedical intervention, America will consistently be among the top nations that can provide the best service. Unfortunately, these acute interventions only make up a sliver of the costs/needs of American health care.

Our health care system is broken.

Easily the most broken in the developed world.

Economic mobility is much higher in several countries in Western Europe. Meaning, the American Dream is happening in Europe, not America.

Finland's education system is widely considered one of the best in the world. Germany has had to deal with innovation and globalization yet has somehow maintained their manufacturing base.

Most of Western Europe has universal health care. Including much more time for maternity leave and paid vacation. Oh and lower infant mortality rates.

Most western Europeans work fewer hours than Americans yet many Western European countries have longer lifespans.

Most Western European countries are light years ahead of us in energy and infrastructure development.

And some of the happiest countries in the world are located in Western Europe.

So what happened to the American Dream? Why are so many Western Europeans obtaining it?

If Americans want solutions to the plight seen in so many of its cities, why try to reinvent the wheel? Why not look at Europe? Hell why not look at Canada? Have they not had to deal with globalization, ghettos, and racism? Is poverty just an American thing?

Methinks you need to do more research on this subject before you comment further.

Well, the 'solutions' you're proposing is simply telling them to 'toughen up'. Take a wild guess as to how effective this approach has been thus far.

Entrepreneurs leaving their own communities is a problem. How do you propose forcing black residents of these ghettos to not 'get out'?

I propose the abolition of the existence of these ghettos in the most economically powerful nation in the world. America's wealth doesnt mean **** if only a small percentage of its citizens reap its rewards that come with that status.

Everyone understands there frustration. Acting like those who disagree with violence do not does nothing to move towards solutions.

Clearly you don't.

Communist propoganda.

D'aww :)

1) Capitalism isn't a US invention. Please quit appropriating it as such.
2) the US couldn't give two **** about developing nations having most of their citizens living in abject poverty. All they care about is producing goods with the least amount of money for maximum profit generation-- enhancing trade relations may boost a country's GDP, but its up to that country to properly transfer their newfound riches towards all strata of society-- something that few developing nations can claim to have done.

a rather humorous interpretation of his post. That was probably its intent, I suppose.
