First of all, I wouldn't say that NO BODY CARES if it happens in other places. Americans might be incredibly ignorant in many cases. Yes, we may really suck at teaching different languages too. But we're about as altruistic as they come. You don't see Brazil, Mexico, Canada, China, Australia, or France donate near the time, manpower, or money in foreign aid as the United States. Hell, I could see one making a case for our country being more considerate of foreign countries and peoples than our own.
However, I think you're an idiot if you think that these types of tragedies should get as much or more air time than domestic ones. This is the case in every country. Domestic issues/tragedies/triumphs will almost always be emphasized more than foreign ones.
Lastly, you need to consider the media in those other countries. Often, they prevent or misreport these types of tragedies. Or rather, their governments don't allow the tragedies to be reported. They don't want information to get out. Especially in places like the Middle-East, Northern African, or N. Korea. I'm sure our media would love to report hours upon hours of folks suffering in N. Korea. Unfortunately, their government has made it impossible to do any reporting there.
Anyway, I just feel you're trying to make a mountain out of a moehill. People aren't abusing American Exceptionalism in this case.
