Agree. If i were anohter GM, i would go ahead and spend the extra 3mins on the phone and ask "ok, so now that we understand where we are with Williams, lets talk about a trade for KANTER." And even as i write that, i would say the conversation is more "we want the 2nd pick and we'll give you this for it" and that is it. When the other Wolves say "well, who ya gonna pick?" you'd say "doesn't matter, I just want #2 and i'll give you a can of pork and beans for it."
In general, Utah and Minnesota are more competitive situation than Minnesota and Cleveland. So maybe this is a pot stirring trick on behalf of Cleveland by Minny for friendly benefits later... Still, i don't see how it means much.
I think Enes at #2 might be for real for 3 reasons.
1) I just don't see the point for the smokescreen at #2 overall. Wolves gain nothing from declaring they are drafting a different player. I think, just like Cavs declared they are drafting Irving, Wolves did the same with DWill. In other words, I don't see any benefit in lying here, so I think if they did say that, they are thinking that right now.
2) Wolves were said to be on the borderline with DWill and Kanter even before this announcement. Since they need C MUCH MUCH more than forward, and these 2 guys are close, in their view, I just think Kanter get the edge, because he plays the position then need the most vs the position they already have a pair of 22 year old 20 point scorers in.
3) Givony, who was very realistic about Kanter and always had him below 6, since he felt Enes was unproven, all of the sudden lists him at 2. So, there has to be something real about Wolves and Kanter, or there is no way Givony would list him so high, after all the reservations he expressed about him.
Of course of all of this could be BS. We will find out tomorrow. But given the information we have now, I keep the hope alive that we will get DWill 2.
