This screams as a settling move or that they had no other options they liked. There's nothing to do but hope, but Johnson was a magical player in that he didn't have phenomenal physical talent but was particularly intelligent on the field. Hopefully that translates.
I don't think it was a settling move. If Utah did have over 70 applicants for the job, I see no reason they'd have to "settle" for Brian Johnson. Actually, I've heard some say that it was a very calculated move by Whit as he tries to establish a certain enviornment up on the hill. Some are saying that moves such as BJ, or bringing in old alum like Morgan Scalley and Sharief Shaw to coach is an effort by Coach Whit to an establish a sort of "We Are Utah" type of brand that is associated with the football program.
