A little off topic, but you strike me as such a dork. Are you a Trekkie, Star Wars fanboy, Harry Potter enthusiast or anything else like that? Not that there's anything wrong with that stuff, I just want to see if you fit the stereotype that I've subconciously assigned to you.
Back on topic, believe it or not, I cringe everytime I see a Ute fan make a comment like "We're not BYU" in regards to stuff like the Doman hiring. While I think the timing of the Doman hire was questionable, I realize that every program makes hires like that from time to time. Not suprised at all to see comments like that coming back and biting some Ute fans in the ***.
Suprisingly, I feel very similar about the Doman/BJ hires. I think both are great young coahes that are eventually going to be very good at what they do. I just think both schools took risks in promoting them so early. Hell, IMO Utah took an even bigger risk because I think that BJ is an even greater unkown than Doman was at the time. At least Doman spent some time in the NFL and had a few more years coaching under his belt before BYU promoted him.
I think it's hard to disagree with the fact that BYU paid a price for Doman's growing pains last season. That doesn't mean it wasn't worth it, and it doesn't mean that Doman won't turn out ot be a good OC (I think he will). It just means that I thought BYU promoted a guy that wasn't going to hit the ground running. He needed time to grow into his job, and he still may need more time. For Utah fans touting the BJ hire, I would warn them of the exact same thing. Even if BJ turns out to be the correct hire, Ute fans better be ready for some rough patches ahead as far as the offense is concerned.
I think making things worse for Doman was the fact that the Heaps/Nelson issue was present at the time of his hiring. I still strongly believe that Bronco mismanaged Jake Heaps since the day he set foot in Provo. That made things harder for Doman. I do think that BJ starts of his OC tenure at Utah in a better position due to the fact that there's not a brewing QB controversy.
