BRING BACK DEMARRE CARROLL TRADE IDEA

Utah trades Alec Burks, #12, #60 to Toronto for DeMarre Carroll and #9.

Carroll wasn't the difference maker that Toronto hoped for. He brought defense, but was injured a lot and didn't get into the offensive flow. He needs a system with less one-on-one and more passing. Coach Q knows how to bring the best out of Carroll.

Burks is an insurance policy if the Raptors lose DeRozen, Terrance Ross or both. He gives them a third scorer which they did not have and is more of a solo-artist threat who could back up either guard spot or start.

Picks swap because Utah is helping Toronto free-up salary ($4m) to re-sign DeRozan. Utah has 3 picks in second round, so losing last one is no big deal. By moving up 3 spots, Utah's options increase to get Murray, Sabonis, or Brown.

Srs bruh? Here what Utah thinks.

I LOVE Junkyard Dog. One of my favorite players in recent years. Great teammate. Great person. Developed into a great defensive wing. All that said. . . I still don't make this trade. Carroll is coming off of an injury filled season, but he's not getting any younger and his contract isn't getting any smaller.

Alec Burks contract is going to be an absolute bargain next year after salaries skyrocket and the FA market won't be very strong. If he stays healthy, he will easily be the team's best asset at the trade deadline or leading up to the 2017 draft.

I wouldn't hate a move like this, but I wouldn't make that trade.

I would do it. Don't see Toronto doing it, though. Carroll still has value.

Don't they have the room to sign Demar anyway?

Yes and no. They'll be right at the salary cap line when his cap hold is instituted, which means that they can't afford to keep Biyambo. They have to have cap space to sign him. No Bird rights.

So, basically. . . signing DDR brings him back into the fold, but eliminates their ability to improve on this past season. Freeing up several million dollars gives them some breathing room to make other moves.

I think he meant doesn't Utah have the room to sign him anyway.
