Why is "bulldog" the go-to dog reference for being tough? Arent bulldogs genetically weak?

They were very different early and bred to figth. Selective breeding at work.

Bulldogs are handicapped/sick animals being bred to such extremes that they can't move or breathe properly and in no way they should be associated with athletes.

Get a mut over a pure breed. They will be more healthy. Find a corgi mix if you like the look of them. Just my two cents. MVP is obviously a better authority on this though.
