Burks likely done for season?

Which I'm ok with btw. The jazz are rolling of late. I'm a little worried myself that if they bring him back it could screw things up.

Im pretty certain that health wise he is ready to play.

You could be right but Jesus H. Christ, QS has been holding this team together with spit and scotch tape all season. Exum aside, Jazz have not been full strength since the FIRST game in Utah against GSW.

And, if the Jazz miss the playoffs? I know I'll be pissed.

And how long it takes shooting guard Alec Burks to get back on the court will determine how much the one the Utah Jazz endured Saturday night truly hurts.

In a 109-104 defeat to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Jazz fought through multiple absences and nagging injuries to take a Western Conference contender to the brink. But the sight of Burks crashing hard to the court at the end of the second half will be the lasting image for the Jazz, at least for now.

This thread exists for a reason.
The jazz are doing a horrible job of providing any sort of clear info on Burks injury or date to return to action. And they have done a horrible job from the beginning.

I'd like more info from the Jazz on what's going on, but there are other possible reasons why they would be circumspect about things. Suppose, for instance, that the problem is that Burks can't explode to the left like he usually does, or that there's some particular part of his game that is impacted by the recovery. Why announce to rival teams where his Achilles's heel is?
 
The Jazz don't owe anyone anything as it relates to the public part of managing an injury. And if I were them I couldn't care less about the speculation by the media and fan sites. As long as the player and the organization are comfortable with how it is being managed that is all that matters. I would love to know what is going on but I get why they manage it close to the vest.

Cause he aint playing anyway. It doesn't hurt us for our opponent to know that Burks is having a hard time exploding to his left if he is chilling on the bench in a suit.

Jazz obviously won't play him until he has proven he can do everything at 200% so letting the opponent know what he is struggling with while he is out doesn't really matter if he has to fix that issue before he can play anyway
 
I can't believe I just thought of this angle. I wonder what the insurance policy is on Burks? Maybe at this point holding him out a few more games is worth millions. Given how conservatively everything else has been played, this honestly wouldn't surprise me.

Damn you Naos... you nailed it. Our medical staff are basically the claim underwriters... Millers getting them checks.
 
If an insured player is disabled, there is a 41 game waiting period, after which the insurance company pays 80% of the guaranteed portion of the player's remaining base salary, up to $175,000 per regular season game. The waiting period can span seasons, and the player even can attempt to come back -- if he does and finds that he is unable to play, the 41-game count resumes (as long as he stopped playing due to the same injury).

After his 41st missed game the insurance company starts picking up 80% of the tab... Burks has missed 49... His per game salary is roughly $115,000. For each game the Jazz would save roughly $92,000 if I am reading things correctly. Jazz save another $500k if Burks doesn't play... already saved roughly $700k. Keep getting dem checks!
 
Burks played more minutes last season than he will this season. Gotta feel for the guy. Especially when they're completely separate injuries.
