What's new

Burks will be Rookie of the year.

I actually think Burks is good enough to win ROY. Look at the other canidates, no one really jumps off the page to me as a clear cut favorite.

Irving? He had 11 game freshman career. His team isn't any good (hurt his APG and efficiency) and he still has to play alongside BARON DAVIS of all people.

Williams? He is on a team loaded with 3's , 4's, and 3/4's.

Kanter? Stuck behind a lot of big men

Tristan Thompson? Could surprise people. Extreme hustle may give him some impressive rebounding numbers. Will he be stuck behind Jamison though?

Jonas Valanciunas? Clear favorite (JUST A JOKE SEPANOL, I know he isn't playing this year).

Jan Vesely? The guy can't shoot and will be compete for minutes with guys like Josh Howard, Rashard Lewis, Andray Blatche.

Brandon Knight? Also stuck behind a lot of players like Stuckey, Gordon, Hamilton at the 1 & 2.

Walker? DJ Augistin is still in town.

Jimmer? Possible, can catch fire at any point and has a direct line to starting.

Biyombo? No way

Klay Thompson? Doubtful, especially as long as Monta Ellis is in town

Morris Twins? Lol

Leonard? Possible darkhorse. They traded George Hill who is a stud for him, so they see something in him.

Rubio? Possible, but can he put up the points?

Burks has a pretty good chance just because the field looks kind of weak in terms of immediate impact.

^^^ Good post and I agree completely. This year, more than any in recent memory, seems up in the air ..

Plus, Burks should be ahead of Bell in the rotation by week 2 and, imo, is already better than Miles, so he should easily get 25+ minutes.

My biggest questions about him are how well he plays with the team (I could see him being a chucker) and what kind of effort he will put out. Like in Locke's video, he could be 'too cool for school' on the defensive end. I think the skill set is already there and I agree, he should be ahead of Raja and is probably better or equal to Miles offensively right now.

Hmmmm .. you may get a few guys bash this post but I found it a very fair post and also a fair concern.

Cleveland will be handing the keys to Irving from the get go. I expect he'll win it on box score stats from playing heavy minutes.

I get the "chucker" comment, but at the same time, the dude loves to pass the ball.

I don't say its impossible but he is not favorite for sure. A guy who is drafted at 12, never can be a favorite for ROY without seeing even one game.

I still think Irving is the best candidate. If he can't win this award, considering he is the new cornerstone for cavs and the team will be set around him, it means this guy has a problem. I don't see a strong candidate except Irving though. So Burks has same chance with 5-6 guys drafted as lottery

I think, at least until he proves himself, he can't find as much playing time as CJ miles. And if AK returns, it will be tough for him to find good playing time to contribute. Let's not fool ourselves, this last game was an exhibition game and even if i participated i could get a couple of easy buckets, there was no defense at all.
I don't wanna underestimate Burks, but let's not get too high on him just with one game.
Other than that, he is clearly more talented than Brewer and he has good potential, it depends on him,how much effort he will put whether he is gonna become a solid player or not.

lack of SG is our nemessis for long time, i wish AB will be the answer but what i've seen so far he is just young promise kid. we can not predict his career on his college stat (even if those were equal like wade's) or one charity game, what i've seen in this Locke youtube, some forced shots and plays. i havn't seen wade in college but there is no wade's smooth in AB game right know.
I wish he will be JAZZ SG this season.
for me what we can expect for him we will see after first 20 NBA games.

So, please help me understand. You are calling for the trading of Jefferson because you feel like Kanter will be better than him very soon. As soon as someone starts a thread about Burks being able to win the ROY award, you use the argument that everyone has been using with you in regards to Kanter. I am so confused.

Let me clarify my stance. I want the young guys to play a lot of minutes for the next two or three years. Let them play through their mistakes and give them a chance to learn and grow. I want to see Jefferson either traded or his minutes significantly limited. I fee the same way for Burks as well. Bell and Miles should have very limited minutes and should possibly be traded if the opportunity arises. I am ok with a few losing seasons as long as the young guys are getting better.

Burks will be Rookie of the year if there is a season at all this year. I just want to go on record calling this prediction (i think i should get +100 rep points if i'm right lol jk :) ) seriously though! His game will tranlate in the NBA. also, his style mirrors Wade's a lot. Can anyone come up with a better comparison. here is a link to David Locke'sscouting report of burks

I see some Brandon Roy in him too

Don't stop there. Burks is a rich man's MJ. He is a lot like a more skilled and more athletic Kobe Bryant. He reminds me of a Dr. J that can actually jump. Sometimes he makes me think of Oscar Robertson if he had been a more all around player. Burks plays a lot like a combination of D Will, CP3, and Stockton, but with a better handle, jumper, and court vision.

There, that's better.

You forgot that he is a better rebounding and scoring version of Chamberlain, he's like Yao but with some height, he's similar to Pistol Pete except he really is more flashy. He has more vert than Spudd Webb and Vince Carter combined, and he's a better on the court coach than MJ ever was.
Did I mention he was cut from his pee wee league team, and he has held a grudge against his coach ever since. He is determined!

He also played Middle Linebacker for his HS football team and was recruited by both LSU and Alabama.

Unfortunately his jersey became untucked during the charity game and he didn't seem to care, I'm not so sure he's a Jazz man...
