He gets a lot of **** but he’s a huge human who can do some good basketball things.A lot of you are overthinking this. Drummond gives LAL an option that they didn’t have. For free, basically. They’re better now.
If Rudy was any good he'd just catch the shots instead of blocking them. If I was coach I'd tell him to do that instead. Wake up Quin! This guy sucks up rebounds. He grabs 26% of all rebounds and 15% of all offensive rebounds. Our weapon is Rudy contesting shots. The problem here is that if Rudy is contesting shots, a miss means a Drummond put-back. He probably gets a higher ORB% against us because of that and because we have nobody else to clean the defensive glass if Rudy challenges.
If he figures out on how to be a proper role player, he will definitely help the Lakers. But it’s gonna take him quite some time. May be a longer process than Conley. Especially considering Lakers won't be at its full strength until late April or even early May, Drummond will have a lot of carrying to do. It could very well be Pistons/Cavs 2.0 for him until Lebron/AD comes back.If Drummond cuts the bull **** from his game he will be helpful to the Lakers. If I was them I'd have gone for Dieng because he does the role player things and they need a role player. If Drummond sticks to the role player things he will do well. Everyone hates when he tries the playmaking and post stuff but he's not had the best teammates of all time so he's likely always been needed to play a little outside of his ideal role. I think he took it to a bit of an extreme but oh well.
The bigger joke is how much importance we place on a mid-season awardStill remember that year when Derozan was named the All-star starter in the East then next year when he moved West, he couldn't even make the reserve list.
It's a joke they still have equal number of all stars between two conferences even though the league acknowledge the talent disparity themselves by making it the captain's pick as opposed to the traditional East vs West format cuz everyone knew that the East would just get destroyed.
Maybe... but a super simplified role is easier to adjust to... Drummond needs to rebound, set screens, and take up space on defense. He needs to do an impression of Dwight last year. He isn't the defender or energy guy Dwight is but he can do the boardwork and just eliminate some of the BS.If he figures out on how to be a proper role player, he will definitely help the Lakers.
