Buyout Options

And right now EM is turning to dust on our bench.

Yeah... surprised we couldn’t get a trade setup for him. He seems like such a good dude and was improving rapidly... great surprise. JC has been a great addition and I don’t care that he doesn’t pass... but if we could have got a deal at a different position it would have balanced the roster a bit better. I’m guessing we didn’t have a lot of choice cuz Exum is bad injured and overpaid.

I could have told you that MKG and Marvin were likely to get released... and I’m a dumb fan... if you think they are getting released you call before it happens and talk it over with the team... maybe that happened but I doubt it. If it didn’t happen because we are content with Niang/Bradley then we are in bigger trouble than we think. The minivan is likely right at his developmental ceiling so more PT ain’t gonna help him get longer or more athletic. He might not be able to improve his shooting a whole lot and I think he already tries hard and is smart just doesn’t have enough horsepower.

Michael Kidd-Gilchrist and Dragan Bender are both being bought out.

So I’ve long been a Bender hater. I saw him at summer league and he was getting beat by non nba dudes and just generally looked miserable. But he’s 22... he’s got positional size and move well. He also started hitting his threes in the g league and in limited minutes. Like maybe Phoenix just does that to guys... I remember saying Similar things about Chriss and he became functional... well kinda... he’s still dumb AF.

Im not saying he’s the guy we should bring in because it feels like yet another project, but I think he’s a better project than Tony. I’d rather have him than NWG and Tucker (he seems like the good stats in the GLeague all star but not necessarily an nba player). I mean if there was nothing else out there I could go for that. I want a team option on a second year though.

Remember that it's not like we would hear about it if JZ/DL called player X's agent and asked if they were interested. If Marvin had decided on Bucks even before the buyout, there's not much you can do. Is MKG an improvement over anyone? I don't really know, I never liked him much as a player.

Niang needs to step away from the Chuckarama buffet and take some personal training sessions.

I like MKG for us... so many teams going small ball and he can give you defense rebounding and some length.

I do understand we wouldn’t hear about it. I’ve listened to a lot of interviews with jazz writers and the front office guys. I don’t think they are knocking on enough doors... like remember the DM deal... we called around and set stuff up... but then Denver called us when the deal went through. I would have thought we called them prior to the pick to say “hey it’s getting close here... you in?”

I’ve been involved in enough business deals and sales transactions and can attest to how much frequent contact helps get stuff done.

It’s a dumb argument. From what I understand practice isn’t some competitive scrimmage for hours where you can see stuff... there is some of that but it’s a lot of shoot around and walk throughs.

My other favorite is “lol you think you know who’s going to be better than the coach? The coach only plays the best players and nothing else goes into that decision you so dumb.”

A lot goes into who plays... Ed was awful and played over Tony for a long time... Ed’s a bet it makes sense. If Tony doesn’t get a chance then the front office and coaching staff looks like they failed (they already failed and that’s okay... just fail faster)... but dudes have to wait their turn until they get a shot. They have to **** up continually until we finally see someone else... who gets yanked at the drop of a hat.

You won’t know what you have unless you play these guys... we have had opportunities to give them a shot. It at least gives you an idea if the development is worth reinvesting in. I look at Terrence Davis and wonder if he would have played for us. Like one of the best things that could happen for our roster construction is NWG getting some time and getting scorched so we could cut him and move on.

The Exum pick wouldn’t have been as catastrophic if after 2-3 years we just said **** it... the guys been hurt but he ain’t it... likely pick up something in trade and move on. DL sticks with projects too long...

Then you get guys like Christian Wood... who is super productive in a stint of games last year... has length athleticism and shows an improved jumper... gets waive and we don’t take on that project. If we had Wood it changes so many things for us.

This year we have like 5-6 projects which is great but if you have that many you kinda need to try some of them... in years past we have like 1... we kinda over corrected.
The issue with exum was his extension. Period. Everything up till that point makes sense. But DL should not sign an injury prone player to a three year fully guarantee deal. Make the second year team option or the third year non guarantee then it's a complete different story

If that were true, I'd highly question the ability of the FO taking us forward.
Unless I’m misremembering that’s exactly the story... maybe we showed interest but he called us and wanted to be part of our development program was the big “look at how cool we are” story.

Also heard stuff like Denver wanted OG in 2017 but thought he'd still be available in the 20's so they called DL for a trade-down.

I looked closer at Bender... I had mentally written the guy off... I think he might be a good option. Doing some good stuff in the G league. Looks much better in the highlights.I think we could use him in pick and roll or as the PF standing in the corner shooter and play him at center on defense. Might allow us to bring in a PF that can rebound a bit and play the roll man role on offense.

Like he’s way more intriguing to me than Tony.
