What's new

BYU to the Big 12 discussion???

No doubt. But given how this season is going, it's good they didn't wait. Strike while the iron is hot.

I really hate it when I agree with you.

However, if they had waited, they'd still be beating up on New Mexico and UNLV. They'd get hammered by Boise and lose to TCU and finish with 10 wins yet again. That's why I actually enjoy this new Pac 12 stuff. Even though Utah is 5-and-4, at least we'll have a better idea year in and year out on just how good/bad Utah is.

Really? If Utah had stayed in the MWC they would be a 10 win team and 2nd to boise in the MWC. Maybe 3rd depending on the outcome of the Utah/TCU game.

In the end I'd much rather play in the Pac than an unstable and iffy conference like the big12 is at this time.

I don't think the BIG 12 is a shaky as it was even 3 months ago. It's still a no-brainer if a team worked out an invite. For the Utes, the PAC 12 was the ideal fit. For other schools, maybe not.

And I'm with jazzman12. I'd rather see Utah go through their awkward stage in the PAC12 than be a bridesmaid in the MWC.

No doubt but Conan implied that Utah would be left out if they were still in the MWC. I don't buy that. They would have recieved the invite to the big 12 when BYU was in negotiations. Meaning they would have been one of the Big 12's 1st choices.

I am ecstatic that Utah is in the Pac 12. I'd rather be there than the big 12 or especially the big east.

There's pros and cons to both but I'll take the beating of a tough region over cupcakes all day.

I'm actually quite surprised the Utes didn't wait for the SEC invite.
We all know it was on it's way if they were just patient enough.

Probably true. Given that most everyone but Utah homers knew Utah would struggle in the Pac12 to start. But especially important that the guys making the decisions in the Pac12 knew it so it stands to reason other conferences would also overlook the current team.

No question it's the best conference for Utah. It was good that it was the "first" offer.

Can't disagree with this.

It really sounds like the Big East is giving BYU the full court press. I think you can also throw Boise St. into that mix too. They REALLY want BYU to join along with them. I think BYU is going to win big on this one. The Big East is grasping at anything that will help stabalize the conference. I'm guessing BYU comes out of this as a member of the Big East with their BYUtv demands being agreed to.

In all reality, I think being in the western half of a new Big East along with the likes of Boise St. Air Force, SMU, and Houston suits BYU better than the Big 12.

On all fronts (especially competitive) except travel and that it doesn't make sense. But hey, the Big 12 has 10 teams and the Big 10 has 12 teams.

In regards to travel, I think that's one of the reasons Boise St would love for BYU to jump on board. It would make for a great regional rivalry and a very short road trip. In fact, with Boise, BYU, Air Force and 2 schools from Texas, the road tripping wouldn't be all that bad on their side of the conference. Obviously there would be some major inter-sectional road trips with the other side, but those would be minimal.

Utah only plays 2 road games per year against Pac12 North teams. Without seeing the structure of what this possible new Big East would look like, I'm guessing it would look very similar for BYU. Granted, those 2 road trips would be very long, but if it's only a couple per season, it can be done. One could also argue that as an independent, it's very likely that BYU would be logging more road miles than they would if they were in the new Big East. As an indy this year, they've already visited the state of Texas twice, Mississippi, and still have to make a trip out to Hawaii.

Didn't want to start a new thread just for this, so I figured the nearest BYU related thread would do.

Thoughts on Heaps taking over again now that Nelson is injured? Will the team be there for him? Any chance he's turned a corner?

I think getting benched will prove to be the fire he needed set under his ***. He's a really good QB (I have always thought this) that could be great if he can get past his entitlement issues.

With BYU's remaining schedule, he has a chance to get the team on board.

I don't think any BYU fan cheered as hard as I did when Nelson was injured. Nothing against Nelson, but man, he's terrible.

Im calling it now: Heaps has decent games against NMSU and Hawaii, only to have the rug yanked out from under him in favor of Nelson for the Bowl game.

Bronco just seems hell bent on ****ing up this QB situation.

This.

I'm not too fond of Bronco as a coach. I do understand, and take into consideration, that he has the job of balancing the football program with the structure of the school and its priorities. That cannot be easy.

That being said, he's no LaVell Edwards. He has spent the last two seasons turning an enviable QB situation into a ****burger.

My biggest problem with Bronco is that he's too busy trying to be these kids Bishop. They already have an ecclesiastical leader. They need to have a football coach who is just that. Don't get me wrong, he needs to fully endorse and promote what the Church/School stand for, but he takes it WAY too far, IMO.

I don't care if I want somebody else in, I'm not going to cheer if they get hurt.
This is football. The only people I could wish harm on are people that kill or hurt other people purposely or dogs with cropped ears, and I would do so only for the reason that I would hope it would stop them from causing harm to others.

Let me rephrase: I cheered because Heaps was finally getting back into the game, where he belongs. I don't want Nelson to be injured, that sucks for him. I'm just glad that, even if by default, the best QB is finally playing again.

I hope so. You shouldn't lose a job because of an injury, especially when the guy taking your place has had a million chances to perform and just hasn't been able to.

That sounds better, you were more cheering that Heaps would now be in the game, and not that he got injured.
