BYU to the Big 12 discussion???

How am I a hater in this discussion? I think the majority of people in and around college football will agree that not getting into the Big 12 was detrimental to the program going forward. The Big East isn't that big of a deal IMO.
Don't feed the troll. Any bad statement about BYU will be met with an attack by CONAN. It does not matter if the statement is true or not.

As BYU moves closer and closer to permanent independence, I think the most interesting aspect of it is how you basically have BYU fans breaking into two different factions.

-In one corner you have the fan that desperately wants to see BYU football on a level playing field with all of the other schools in big conferences. This desire probably even burns hotter now considering that BYU's main rival up the street has recently entered that playing field. They're dumbfounded by BYU's insistance to have their cake and eat it to in regards to keeping their own personal TV deals while also reaping the benefits of playing in a major conference- something NO other school in the country enjoys at this point and time. They're pissed off and they want answers.

and

-The group that's going to toe the company line, defend BYU to the bitter end, and champion the decision to stay independent no matter how many Armed Forces Bowls they play in, no matter how many WAC filled Novembers they have, etc. But hey, it was by design, right?

I think I'm kind of in the middle. I prefer BYU to be in a big conference. But I think the situation needs to be right. But I am also okay if they stay indy, as long as the schedule and bowl tie ins improve dramatically. What they have now isn't going to work. But this takes time.
There is no way any conference is going to cave in to BYU's demands. So, unless they decide to cave in some, BYU will stay indy. And I'm fine with that as long as things improve, like I said.

No you have to be on one side or the other and he made it clear which side is stupid so really it's only one choice.

You're pretty rational, and I see where you're coming from, but let me ask you this: You say you're fine with being indy as long as the schedule and bowl tie ins improve dramatically. What are some of your suggestions on how BYU can improve that? I think in terms of quality opponents, BYU will do just fine in filling out a decent schedule. My biggest question is, how are they going to get some of those games played in November? I think by far the biggest problem pro-independent fans are ignoring is that BYU is going to have to play all of these bigger games very early in the season, in consecutive weeks, and it's going to take a toll and cause some losses in games that BYU would have a chance to win otherwise.

IMO, BYU cannot survive such ambitious scheduling without being able to achieve some sort of balance in the schedule. As of right now, a front loaded schedule seems to be BYU's only option. So how does BYU convince Pac12, Big10, ACC, SEC, Big East, and Big 12 schools to break away from conference schedules in November in order to accomodate BYU?

I think it's a huge problem, and I don't think it's one that Tom Holmoe can fix. IMO BYU needs the scheduling insulation that would come with joining a conference. Without it, I think they're in big trouble.

There's a reason I'm posting on JazzFanz and not pulling in a big check as an AD. I don't have the answer. I just like to sit back and criticize.
But in reality, I think it will be possible to pull one or two teams away late in the season. At least I hope it will be. I know USC and Notre Dame play later in the season. Yes, I know BYU ain't no Notre Dame. But look at Pitt and Utah this season. It happened later in the season. It can be done.

Take it one step further. Can they do this without it being a money game? Or are they going to get all of their home games early in the season? Some of the big name programs may have a bye in the conference late in the season but the a lot of those schools are not going to want to come to Utah then. So if they are successful are all of those games going to be road games? And does playing all of your big games late in the season on the road help your fan base? So if they do get a return game from big name schools are they going to be early games anyway?

Obviously, Notre Dam is an option due to their independent status. The Pitt game isn't a great example for shoring up November play. Utah played them in mid-October. I don't think BYU's going to have problems with mid-October games.

That's why I said "later" in the season. It still came in the middle of Conference play.
On a side note...why is Stanford allowed to play Notre Dame the last week of the season, USC play Notre Dame the last week of October, and Utah play Pitt in the middle of October but Utah can't play BYU this week? Was it a choice made by Utah? I know I heard during the whole debate about whether they could still play that the Pac wasn't allowing Utah to play a non-conference game this late. Was that just somebody talking out of their ***?

Right because as Jazzmanthe12yearold said you can either be on one extreme or the other. There is no in between and if you aren't with him you are dumb. And you wonder why Ute fans have such a bad rap. They all think like Salty.
