A couple of interesting quotes about BYU's decision to go for it as opposed to kicking the FG:

Bronco:
“I didn’t make the [play] call, but I did make the call to go for it,”

Doesn't really sound like a coach who has Anea's back if you ask me. I'm suprised how much BYU protected Heaps in this game. Utah's secondary had been putrid the 3 prior games and it wasn't like this was Heaps' first start as a Freshman. I don't think you go out and get the best QB prospect in the nation only to keep him under wraps during the last and biggest game of the season. I have to wonder if Anea will be back, but as a Ute fan I hope he is. I think he holds back BYU's offensive potential.

Assistant Coach Lance Reynolds:

"We should have kicked the field goal. I have no idea what the thinking was there."

I agree with him, but I'm sure glad that Bronco/Anea made the collective boneheaded decision. I'm immediately putting both on my Christmas Card list.

I was at the game and to me it looked like we beat our biggest rivals on a last second epic field goal block after being down 13-0 going into the 4th qtr, and I also heard rumblings of us being invited to the Pac 12, Conference of Champions.

Then I read this thread and realized we just got all lucky and stuff and our QB sucks and I suck and its not even cool to win 10 games in a season anymore and our coaches suck and snow sucks cuz it gets you cold and we barely won so that sucks and all our qb's are the suck and that we wont do good in the 12 pac cuz we suck basically byu won if you think bout it cuz we suck and anyone who celebrates this win sucks and stuff and remember all those 2 games we lost this season and we got scored on in lots of games with the other teams touchdowns and dont get excited about pac 12 we gots no qaurterbacks and now were are screwed i dont like football.

Those two things aren't mutually exclusive.

The best part of this thread is that Utah has received at least six (and counting) votes since the game ended. It was 14-11 when I noticed the results last night. Way to go out on a limb, you six.

Hearing some rumblings from both sides.

Apparently, the way the d-line guy from Utah decided to retire was kind of weird. Very abrupt and he just walked into the weight room and made the announcement and left. Several seniors have petitioned Whit concerning various coaches (including o-line coach). This is not unusual but the volumn of players doing it is.

Down south I believe/hope Anae is gone after the bowl. Doman has been a hot item in recent years. Not as an HC but as an OC. He is ready and wants his chance. If Anae stays then I think Doman is gone. Which would suck. If Anae goes then Doman moves up to OC which is good.

Also, BYU threw their hat in the ring for McCoy Hill.

I checked the SLtrib and didn't see anything about the rumblings that you've mentioned. Enlighten me. I also was interested in looking up some info on McCoy Hill since you mentioned him earlier in this thread but couldn't find much. Maybe I searched wrong but his name didn't even pop up when I looked for him on rivals.com. I found a prep sight that gave me his measurements- I think it said he was 6'5" and said he was a QB/WR. Has he played fulltime at QB, or is he splitting his time between two positions?

Also heard on 700am that Blechen may be moved to LB next year. I would love to see that. The kid is rock solid in run support and hits like a mule. He also seemed very week against the deep ball while playing safety but I can't honestly say if that is just youth or lack of range. However, considering that Taplin-Ross is a senior, it would make me a bit nervous entering Pac12 play with 2 brand new Safeties.

I have a hard time believing Pease's retirement came as a shock to the players and coaches. The guy is old. I was surprised he came out of retirement anyway to coach the Utes a couple years ago.

The fact it came BEFORE the bowl game is a bit surprising, but I expected he would be on his way out this season or next anyway.

I'd rather Utah go hire an experienced d-line coach from another program. That's what they did with the o-line coach (Blake Miller, who coached at Rice prior to coming here) and I think that hire turned out well enough - though I do have some issues with the line creating holes for the backs.
