I have a hard time believing Pease's retirement came as a shock to the players and coaches. The guy is old. I was surprised he came out of retirement anyway to coach the Utes a couple years ago.

The fact it came BEFORE the bowl game is a bit surprising, but I expected he would be on his way out this season or next anyway.

I'd rather Utah go hire an experienced d-line coach from another program. That's what they did with the o-line coach (Blake Miller, who coached at Rice prior to coming here) and I think that hire turned out well enough - though I do have some issues with the line creating holes for the backs.
The senior linemen all went into Whit this year before the season and requested Miller be replaced. Technique is somewhat suspect but mostly the guy is just not very positive with players. So may just be players whining.

JHill was at Jordan for two hours yesterday talking to McCoy, who I think is making an unofficial visit to Utah on Friday.

Again, what is the story with the Hill kid. Does he split his time between QB and WR live I've read, or is he a fulltime QB? I've also read that he's 6'5" and I'm wondering if this is also true. Utah's already got a 6'4" Griff Robels with a huge arm. Since they've already got what Robels brings to the table, If they are going to aggressively recruit another QB, I'd rather see them go after somebody who can move well outside the pocket and bring back the actual threat of running considering the spread offense is predicated on just that.

Perhaps Hill can move well and provide more of a run threat than Wynn does but at 6'5" you usually don't see QB's out there that have that type of mobility. Also, if he is splitting his time at 2 different spots in High School, that gives me concerns. Usually that means there's another QB on the roster that does something better than he can. Granted, I have no idea if he actually has played 2 different positions.

Hmmmm, did not know Heaps played most of the game with a dislocated rib. And also didn't know Wynn was out for the bowl.

Guess I'll have to double check the papers but the only player I've heard was out for the bowl game is left tackle John Cullen with an arm injury that sidelined him during the rivalry game.

I looked high and low and couldn't find anything about a supposed Wynn injury or any other reason he would be out for the Bowl. I think what it boils down to is that Conan is trying to look cool and act like he has inside information.

LOL!

Oh man, Utah's reward for the Vegas Bowl?

*Drum Roll*

Boise St!!!!!!!!!!!!!

LOL!

Man, I wouldn't wish my worst enemy to face Boise St. after that devastating loss to Nevada.

Check out the matchup, LOL Jordan Wynn vs Kellen Moore.

I don't think even the homerist Utes will take the two headed monster of Wynn/Cain over Moore.

Broncos unleash their rage on the Utes, win by at least 3 TDs. But at least you're in the PAC 10 right?

All problems will be solved and your quarterbacks are gonna look like Heisman candidates next year!

Nothing is official yet, but they were saying on 1320 that there's a strong possibility that it could happen.

To me, I bet Boise can find a better deal. They shouldn't have to face a team so inferior in a crappy bowl game. They should still be able to fight a big name school somewhere, IMO. Besides, the game does nothing for either school. .

Dear Thriller,

I actually like you as a poster, but the above post is really, really dumb. First of all, Utah does not have Boise State in the Vegas Bowl. Sure the Vegas Bowl wants Boise State, but getting them is an entirely different matter. From what I understand, La Tech has to beat Nevada this coming weekend before we can even start discussing Boise State heading to Vegas.

A La Tech win would give the WAC 5 Bowl eligible teams and I believe would enact some sort of stipulation the WAC can use to pull Boise out of the Kraft Hunger Bowl and send them to Vegas. However, with only 4 bowl eligible WAC teams (if I understand it correctly) the Kraft Bowl has first dibs on Boise and will not let them go willingly. This means that if Nevada beats La Tech this weekend (and they should), it's most likely the WolfPack that Utah would be facing. I guess there is a scenario where the Kraft Bowl just up and lets Boise walk but I can't figure for the life of me why they would do that. Can you?

And if Utah plays Boise, it may not be as much of a cakewalk as you make it sound. Would Boise be heavily favored? Yes, and they should be. Hell, I'd be picking Boise, but bowl season is a funny thing. Teams basically have a month off and can sometimes come out of the holiday break looking like completely different teams. Not only that, teams who aren't very happy to be playing in their respective bowl almost always come out and lay an egg.

You think Boise would come to Vegas with rage and revenge on their minds. I think they'd be coming to Vegas extremely bummed out that they're not playing for the national title, or at the very least the Rose Bowl. Remember a few years ago when Cal ended the season looking like the best team in the nation but an early loss kept them out of the NC game and then they were snubbed for a BCS game all together? They faced a lesser Texas Tech team in the Holiday Bowl and everybody thought Cal would demolish them. Not only did Cal not throttle Tech, they let the Red Raiders bury them.

Again, please don't think I'm simply being a Utah honk on this one. If I had to lay money down on that match-up, I'm going Boise all the way, but I wouldn't bury Utah completely. If the mid-season Utah squad that showed up @Iowa State was what we saw in the Vegas Bowl, I'd give them a puncher's chance.

Oh. I was confused by the matter-of-fact feel of the statement.

bleacherreport.com seems to think it will be Ohio (Bobcats). Gads, I hope not.

I was only going off what I heard on the radio. Sorry, I had assumed others were listening as well.
I'd like to see Boise play one of the top Big 10 or SEC schools still.

AS far as it not being a cakewalk, I doubt it. There's always the possibility that it turns out to be a real game. But Wynn hasn't demonstrated anything... If anything, he's headed the opposite direction that you folks want.

And as far as the Utes instilling confidence... They were blown up by TCU, killed by a terrible ND team, down by double digits against SD, and were losing most of the game against the worst BYU team under Mendenhall at home with the opposing (freshmen) QB injured.

Sorry, but they haven't given me any confidence that they can hang with a team like Boise st for more than 5 minutes.
