Man, did Thriller just passive-agressively play the whole "refs cost us the game" card? Look at it this way Thriller: Consider it make-up for the missed horse collar call that would have put Utah in close FG range, or the replay they got wrong that gave BYU a 1st down instead of a 3rd and long. Did the refs forget to block Burton too? Did they let Devonte Christopher go up over the top of them and pull down a TD? Weak sauce man.
The refs did screw up a call that gave the Utes the ball. Is a turnover an even trade for a missed horse collar call, no.
Did BYU score on the posession when the first down call was made... I dont think so, so it really had no effect on the game.
Burton made a great play, Christopher made a great play too.
Could BYU have done more to win the game, like kick a field goal instead of going for it on 4th, yes.
The screwed up fumble call had a huge impact on the game because the result of the change of possession was a TD.
It is lame to say quit blaming the refs, and just win the game.... as a coach and player that is all and well to block it out mentally so they can continue to play at a high level. As a fan when I am not on the field, it did affect the game.
Burton's block stopped 3 points. The refs bad call resulted in 7 points for the U.
Bottom line, good game by BYU, average game by the U, bad calls more in favor of U = U win.
That is the reality of it.
That takes nothing away from the good plays either side made.... that Christopher catch was amazing, and the Burton blocked kick was very timely and a great play when it was needed.
The game is over, both sides should quit whining.
Any by both sides I mean the Utes, you won on a gift... accept it and run with it, but don't be blind.
