Call me a homer a thousand times

Blah, blah, blah

Stop giving me the numbers. I can look those up. Look past the numbers and try to explain why he got what he got. Could it be teammates? System? Stability? Give me something different.

Before you go and throw a fit about this, I will just point to two players. Boozer and Stoudemire. They both moved teams. Both became less effective players. Why? Did they get dramatically worse as a player? Nope, that is not it. They changed teams and that also meant changing teammates, system and culture. They are both good players but they were exposed slightly because the players that helped make them look better were not there anymore.

The opposite can also be true. Marcin Gortat. He was a back up center in Orlando. Then he changed teams which also means that he changed teammates, system and culture. Now ESPN is ranking him as a top 60 player in the league. Can your numbers explain why he got better? Did he work so hard in the offseason that he became so much better overnight? I think not.

The Kings as a team and a franchise are a mess. They have a team full of chuckers. Evans, Thornton, Thomas, Fredette and Salmons. Not one of those players would I describe as players that help their teammates be better. Everyone was just looking for their own shot. They don't seem to have any true direction on either side of the ball. Once your numbers can explain that to me I will start to listen to you. Numbers certainly have their place in basketball, but they certainly can't explain everything. Sometimes the eyeball test clears up the issue.

Obviously this thread has moved on far from Cousins, so I'll try to make it short:

Gortat's efficiency didn't change, even after he joined with Nash. He scored more points, but otherwise was the same per/36 and efficiency player he was before. Boozer's efficiency only went slightly down with Chicago (but nothing worse than his bad seasons in Utah). Stoudemire, yes, took a drop, but I think injuries played a big role. Leaving Nash undoubtedly hurt, as well. In any case, I think there are only a handful players in the league who can really drive up a teammate's efficiency, and we don't have one.

Are you really saying that Sacto's team-culture situation was markedly worse than Al's in Boston and Minny?

Can you find ANY player who ended up as more than a flash-in-the-pan all-star who started his career with TS% in Cousins's territory? Cousins's % is even worse than CJ Miles's and Monta Ellis's career percentages. Is there anyone whose career trajectory you think he might follow? (I will say that in the somewhat random mix of players I've looked at, TS% seems to level off after about the 3rd year -- it often rises until then, but rarely very significantly after. So it should be interesting to see how Cousins does this year.)

I'm not saying that Cousins couldn't be a high-volume, high-efficiency player. He has the talent. I'm just saying that it's unlikely he'll turn into that. It would take much more of a statistical anomaly than I think we usually realize.

What are you going to do about it ya damn Albanian Canadian? Rap about him on youtube?

Just be glad that school is knocking down my available hours on Jazzfanz.

I'd make the most provocative rap your Utahn ears have ever heard. I'll make sure to not post it on the weekends, I'd never want your lovely daughters to see a grown man cry.

I've lived in the dirty south. You ain't nothing yo. I'll mushroom stamp ya.

No it is not normal and no you are not OK. But that is why you are here with the rest of us jacked up, poor excuses for good people.

That's what I was thinking when I read Enes' post. You wouldn't be here if you were normal, that's for sure.

I won't surrender that easy folks! (Logging out for now :))

Seriously, I'm still in "denial stage". There is still hope for me., I believe.
