There was Jazzfanz SLC game back in the day.....I think it turned out to be more of a meet and greet than competitive basketball though.

Is that outdoor court you go to usually busy? That's the one downside of Utah pickup basketball to me. More indoor pickup basketball games available than anywhere I've ever seen between churches, schools, and good runs at the local Rec centers, but not many outdoor places you can just show up to and expect to be able to jump into a game if you haven't already organized it beforehand.

Are you saying indoor games are a downside, or just the effect of them causing outdoor games to suffer? I personally prefer to play indoors, where I can still handle 3-4 times a week without my knees/shins killing me. Playing outdoors I can handle about 1 game a week.

I love that in Utah you can find games at churches 5 days a week. Much more difficult outside of the state to find that anywhere, especially when it is free. We always had our "regular" games that were pretty competitive. Also, the rec league pricing in Utah is awesome compared to many other places.

Now that I live out of state, I play with a few groups that rent out spots a few times a week. It is more expensive than going to a community center, but we can be selective with our group and make sure the games are very competitive. In my current city an 8 game league with single elimination playoff is almost $700. Crazy.

Sunday nights always have 10-15 players. I showed up late at 8:00 I guess they started around 6:00 so it wasn't too hard to get buckets if you were to drive. Since that's the strong point of my game I try to implement some other things I work on solo.

Neither. I love all the indoor games available here. I was just saying the lack of outdoor games is the only downside I see in the Utah pickup scene in general, not that it negates the upsides. I just like playing outdoors occasionally....get a little sun...that type of thing. Or the beach side night games in California under the lights.....so awesome. But really, there are only a few specific courts in California too.

There are only actually a few places where outdoor games are abundant enough where you could roll out of bed(assuming the weather was good) and expect to find a game going on that you could jump in - New York City and The multiple Chinese megalopolis come to mind. But Utah basketball is 1000000000 X better because of the indoor games.
